After reading countless threads on countless forums, Im still on the fence about putting the deeper rack plug in my 887 pump. Some threads say it makes a great difference, others say EGTs go up through the roof at the higher RPMs. All I want is 450-500hp as this truck will be a tow rig and play thing once in a while. Truck will have twins soon so airflow should be adequate but I would rather have my EGTs ice cold and deal with a little less horsepower. The only thing done to the pump is a 4k GSK and #100 plate.

Some people report better results on 160-180 pumps, but say its not worth it on the 215 pumps. Just looking for input from the knowledgable guys here. Thanks.

the 2095 rack plug is not even worth the few $$ it costs for a 215 pump. On the other hand, for you 160,175,180 pump guys, it is a good mod to get full rack travel.

That seems to be the prevailing comment on the different threads that I have read. Will it hurt anything to have it in there if it is already installed?

Nope, it won't hurt anything. Just you won't see the benefit of it as with the other pumps like already stated, but if there is one in there already, it's not doing any harm and not worth the hassle of taking it out. Have a good one!

It's got to do with the shape of the helix cut in the plunger of the 215 pumps. The deeper plug allows the rack to travel farther, but that causes the barrel to rotate to a point with respect to the helix that actually causes timing to retard, if I understand the technospeak correctly. I have no doubt there are people here much more familiar with the innards of these pumps that can set it straight for sure.

Light load advance I think its called and the helix has a little extra something and it retards the timing and drops some pressure. some 180s have it too. some of the 215's have it to a lessor degree than the others its all a load of poop. the older 7100's dont have it so it doesnt hurt to keep turning the plunger. I think it is like 4*and a drop in pressure as well.
