well went to work yesturday morning ran like a rape ape as always. jump in after work, drive 200 yards to the gas station, and park, look at fuel pressure and it reads 0 psi, has a choppy idle. so i crawled under and checked to see if my pusher pump was running and it was. i left it run went in, came back out and know this aint good. go to take off, and shes spittin an missing, and a little white smoke. park it and shut her down.

check for codes, none yet

bump the starter to see if lift pump works, nope, it seems to now be dead.

what do you guys think am i right with this diagnosis?

I think all the signs point towards no fuel pressure.

Sounds like the VP is just fine, but it wants fuel.

Sure makes a good argument for a bypass valve around both the LP and the pusher, so when/if either fail, fuel can still flow from the remaining pump. The best LP or pusher in the world can't pump fuel to the VP-44 if there is a blockage in the line from a pump stalled in a manner that closes off the path... ;)

I had something similar happen a week ago, I came out of the credit union and hit the key---no start. I checked the fuel pressure = zero

turned off the key and tried again-- no fuel pressure no start. Whipped out the Smarty to check for codes, P0230 Transfer pump ( lift pump ) circuit out of range. Unplugged the Smarty and tried again, the fuel pressure was back and it fired right up   that was wierd!!

About had a heart attack cause the lift pump was only a day old and the VP44 is only a couple months old, it has not done it again.

 I took the P code as an internal hiccup in the start sequence and it was not sending the power up signal to the lift pump circuit, wouldn't any lift pump getting the signal from the computer still not work under that scenario? Further the truck would still run even if the VP had to suck fuel thru the lift pump, it does every time the POS lift pump has gone out before. In my case it seemed that the "circuit out of range" signal kept the VP from powering up.

sorry for not getting to reply veryfast, been away from home for a while.

it was a dead lp, when i died it wasnt letting much fuel through it. ti think the only reason it ran the little it did was my second carter pump im running. luckuly my buddy still had his old one laying around, slapped it on and shes back smoking like a freight train again. :-laf

thanks for the replies guys.
