Alright,

Just yesterday (1/29/06) my transmission started "slipping" and hunting a little.

This is on the '96 obviously.

Under aceleration it seems to work fine, but as soon as I get to a cruising speed of 45mph or above it starts doing funny stuff. O/D on or off makes no difference. It feels like its locking up and unlocking, and when I take my foot off the go pedal to slow down for whatever reason it will start kicking down and shifting back up.

Any ideas on what this could be?

I'm not really concerned about it, there is a Suncoast in my very near future. Just wondering if I should expect it to quit all together or if I should just drive it 'til it gets worse.

Thanks in advance,

-R. J.

trans hunting

This happened to me on my 96. I have many miles,750 k, so this condition may not be the cause. What happened is that on the T P S is a bell crank and the bushings were worn and the shaft was worn also. the bushings are teflon and believe it or not the shaft was worn more. new throttle, bushings, problem solved. Stormy

I'll have to look into that. I think really though its either the kickdown cable is out of adjustment, or the lockup clutch is worn.

I'll see. Any other ideas?

Thanks,

When I was having this problem I contacted D T T and asked their advice

on this problem. they said there was a way to eliminate the transmission as the problem by using a temporary switch to lock up the T C. by doing this you know for sure if it's tran and go from there. I would get expert advice before attempting this as it could be expensive to make a mistake. Stormy

I have a BD TorqLoc (spelling?) that was installed by the previous owner. It has three settings: stock, lockup, unlock (basically). Granted the factory T/C isn't worth much for staying locked up, especially with mods... but it feels the same and does the same thing on all settings.

I'm pretty sure its the lockup clutch. I have an appointment with Mr. Garmon to get my Suncoast on Friday so I'm not too worried about it.

Thanks,

I had the same problem with my '98 about a year ago (around 150k). I replaced the TPS and the problem was instantly solved. Pretty steep price from the dealer, however - I believe it was something around $240... There is probably a rebuild kit for these pieces, but i just bought the whole piece.

Oh well, I guess even if the TPS or something else is the problem, I needed to do the transmission anyways.

Thanks all,
