Question for you VE gurus

With all the discussion of injectors lately, I've decided I don't want PODs because of the smoke. PWs sound like they would be great for my needs... but the price has become outrageous. :(

US Diesel has a set of injectors - I'm assuming they're BD Power stuff - on sale through the end of the month for $299, plus $100 core.

Then I saw these on eBay: Dodge Ram Cummins 12V 91-93 Diesel Injectors

Any idea what these might be, and if they (or the ones from US Diesel) are comparable to the PWs?

If I was going to do it all over again today, I'd get Don M's EDM injectors, probably Mach 2 or 3.

More expensive, but the quality is definitely there.

Mike

Thanks, everyone. If they really are 185/PW injectors that seems like a pretty good deal. I'll have to see how the overtime goes over the next few weeks and then make my decision - the seller frequently has the same ones listed on eBay, so I have some time to think about it.

The EDMs are out of my price range, especially since I need to buy gauges and a 16cm housing now, too. ;) Between the Dodge and the Jeep I think I need to take on a second job... .

I'll have to email the guy for more info - just happened to see a comment from another buyer about them being 4-hole and "smokey. "

4 hole and "smokey" sound like PODs to me, though I have no personal experience with them. dan brooks- save your $$ for the EDMs. I think a set of Mach1s would give you a nice boost without too much EGT problem- you're intercooled. MACH2s and I think you'd need clutch/ transmission upgrades, along with possible turbo/ exhaust changes. I had a set of MACH1s in mine for about 3weeks, and it was WAY too much for my driveline- 35 psi in 2nd, 40+psi in 3rd, 4th, 5th- not to mention I could hit 1350 pretty easy with my pump and turbo combo. Plus, my tires were wearing out INCREDIBLY fast. I now have a set that flow close to stock, and it will still peg the gauge in 4th & 5th, but never hit 1250 now, with minimal smoke, and my clutch stays cool.

Daniel

PS- IT is nice to know you have your priorities in line. I'd say get at least a 40psi gauge, though. If you go with a HX35, you'll be glad you did.

Daniel - I may be confused, but did you have the Mach1s or Mach2s for a few weeks? I definitely don't want any transmission problems... . The PWs sound like they would be ideal for my needs but I'm not willing to spend $800 on injectors.

The truck is my DD, plus it hauls my cabover on vacation and tows the Jeep frequently, so reliability is more important than lots of power. I may see how I like the 16cm housing before I fork out the bucks for injectors, but if I do end up with new ones I'm not looking for anything that will cause any more headaches down the road. Not to mention the truck has to be smogged yearly - lots of smoke is frowned on around here. ;)

dan brooks-

I had the MACH 1s, (I made the assumption about the MACH2s based on Rip saying they would be about like PODs for power) BUT..... I should have added that I have a PDR HX35-12, and I could peg the 40psi gauge in 4th & 5th; and I chickened out at 1350 with 1/2" pedal left w/stock injectors. So part of the EGT/ smoke could have been the restrictive housing for that much boost, combined with the extra fuelling my pump had. Rip told me they would be about like the PWs for power. WOW; I'd like to see what PODs would to to my truck for power :D , but I'm not that much of a smoke fiend, and it aint cold enough yet to need the heat:). Don made me a set of new ones that flowed the same as stock, and I put them in. Nice boost in power over stock, and about 1. 5-2mpg, depending on how many ricers/ 454s I encounter at stoplights. I would venture to guess that if your pump is at or close to stock (my engine made 28psi boost w/ stock turbo/ housing), you'll be fine, auto or manual. See how the 16 works for you; every time I've put in a smaller housing, I've gained some pep. You can tweak your pump some and still maintain longevity if you dont use the extra power all the time. To my understanding, the stress is only put on the pump when you call for the extra fuel. I needed injectors anyway- one was stuck open, and the other 5 were popping about 500psi low, otherwise I may have stayed with them. But I figured if one needed a new tip, they all did, and why not just spend $200 more and get better ones altogether? Hope that cleared up any confusion for ya.

Daniel

Go with the 16 housing first. That and turning up the pump a little was like night and day to my '89. Cheap mod and it will help if you still decide to add injectors.
