One of the check valves in my lift pump failed the other day, so it was time for a replacement pump. Went to the local Cummins dealer, got the pump home, and was disappointed to see that the 90 degree elbow threaded into the old pump used a larger thread diameter than the new pump, which came without an elbow, also the upper fitting, running from the filter head to the lift pump was taller, forcing me to bend the steel line in order to make it work. I didnt have time to take the pump back and check to make sure it was the right one because the truck HAD to be on the road the next morning, so its on and pumping.....

Did I get the wrong pump from Cummins, or is there a different elbow and steel line I can buy? Thanks.

If the pump looks like a gasser mechanical pump it is the right one. I had my mechanic order one for me because the Mule seemed a little doggy but it turned out to be my rubber supply line was cracked. The new pump is under the back seat in case the original one goes out. ( I had replaced the fuel line with trans line as my mechanic had suggested, it don't hold up I was able to find a good line for the return side but I had to use fuel line for the supply. One day I'm going to find some good fuel line for the supply line. )

Yea, its a B-series pump for sure, its on the truck, and it runs fine. However, I do not like the way the fittings and fuel lines had to be "rigged" to work on my motor. Just wondering if this was common, or if there was a common fix.

I'm totally confused by your question.

Here is the pump I just removed from mine. All the fittings were the same as the new one. This pump came from a IH tractor parts counter and I had to remove one of the fittings from the original pump because the line going into it had a smaller fitting.

Yep, thats the same pump that I just took off of mine. However, both of the threaded in fittings (the one at the top, and on the left in your picture) were different on the new pump. The top one was about 1. 5" taller, and the one on the left was a much smaller female thread than the old pump. I guess Cummins gave me a lift pump for another B-series application on accident..... I'll just go to the local dealer and try another one I guess.

Well, it turns out the lift pump I got was actually a 498-8749, not a 498-8747. Same pump, different fittings for a different application. It was mis-boxed.
