I'm entertaining the notion of Michelin LTX A/T 2 tires. These are alleged to be 10ply rated . Is 121 the same as an E rating? Is $900. 00 for four tires a good price. Any knowlegable insights would be greatly appreciated.

10 ply rating is an E rated tire. Can't go wrong with Michelin LTX A/T. $900 is too much for 4 tires. Go to Discount Tire or Costco and look for a Costco coupon. Discount Tire accepts Costco coupons.

Good luck, george

121 is the passenger/SUV rated tire, 6 ply, normally. Check the load rating. They should be 3195lb load rating if 10 ply, and have 10 ply clearly molded on the sidewall. 121 rated tires are usually much cheaper than 10 plys... ...

... Is 121 the same as an E rating?...
No.

Ply numbers and letter ratings do not always relate to load carrying capabilities.

Ply numbers relate to tire construction and higher number of plys do not always correlate to a higher weight carrying capacity. For example... I have found that BFG tires generally will have 3 plys in the sidewall construction and have the same weight rating as 2 ply tires.

Letter ratings do not always relate to weight capacities- especially when comparing different size tires. A "lower" letter in a larger tire may be capable of more weight than a "higher" letter in a smaller tire.

The load index refers to the load-carrying capacity of a tire, or how much weight a tire can support. The only way to truly compare apples- to- apples for weight carrying capabilities. Within a given tire size is by Load Index (LI). The LI never wavers with respect to load carrying capabilities.

Mich. ATX 2 tires

I paid $976. 00 driveout at Sam's for mine about 14 months ago, very good

tire, stepped up my intown driving from 18. 5 to 20. 0 mpg, also about

1. 5 mpg improvement on the hiway. It also cut out the slight vibration

I experienced with the B. F. Goodrich tires which I took off at 93,000 miles,

just hope the ATX2's last as long, they should with 17/32's of tread.

(I had a $80 coupon or else they would have been over $1,000)

I did notice that they perform a little less in deep sand than the Goodrich's.
