July. .
The time of year it gets hot and provides for some of the best car shows to slip through. In our area we are very fortunate to have 2 of the biggest on the East Coast happening at one time, those being the "All Chrysler Nationals" at Carlisle,PA and the US-30 Dragway Reunion at the York,PA Fairgrounds(along with a stop at Beaver Springs Dragway on Sunday). To try and split time to make both of these shows at once is early impossible. Many of the nations nicest Mopars gathered at both shows with Carlisle holding the M-code or A12 package reunion gathering. For those who don't remember what that means, well, picture 60 of the nations finest 69-1/2 lift off hood 6-Pack Dodge Superbee's and Plymouth Roadrunners in one field for all to see. They say the sight was nothing short of being a Mopar lovers field dreams. In York at the US-30 show they recongonized one of the true doorslammer racers in NHRA history,Ronnie Sox. They had in attendence 15 of the fabled "Sox & Martin" racers in attendence all weekend long.
Well for those who do love the drag racers and enjoy remembering a time when the automobile manufacturers theory was "Race on Sunday,Sell on Monday" and big blocks once ruled the hallowed streets of Detroit. Here is a link to the US-30 Reunion show pictures taken by Bill Pratt which came onto the Stock/Superstock Yahoo group today. I can still remember vividly as a kid sitting in the grandstands across from the famed "Cragar" tower and seeing all of those shown in the pictures. Da Grump,Sox,Leal,Stiles,Strickler,Montgomery,Werst,Larson,Lieberman,Carpinet,Faubel... Names that you can still hear echoing through the hills on a quiet night through the hills where the track still lays. The only time the silence gets broken now there is when the occasional private airplane comes or goes... . Ah Well, those were the days... ... ..... Andy
