2012 TDR Member Calender Contest . . . .

Smarty Jr. Give-Away (Contest ends: July 31, 2010)

One of the best things my Dad told me was to have patience. He would say we can't do everything at the same time. I find myself telling my boys the same thing.

- my father says do your best to help everyone, but remember you can't fix stupid.

-show respect to get respect.

- if you have it you won't need it. he says this about everything from jumper cables to any extra car. Oddly he is not a pack rat or hoarder.

-Everything is for sale.

I was lucky to be one of my dad's four sons. He had great advice and great wisdom. I sure miss him. One good piece of advice was, If it aint broke don't fix it.

Lost my Dad back in 92 to cancer at the age of 57. He always had lots of advice for us three boys. The one that has always stuck in my head, and I have used on both my sons. "Do as I say! Not as I do!":-laf Miss ya Dad... .

My Dad died suddenly when I was six and left us dirt poor. I was fortunate enough to have a brother-in-law (He married my older sister. ) take me under his wing when I was about ten.
He was a pretty good shade tree auto mechanic that kept all his tools piled into a tool box that weighed about 40-50 lbs. which he would not hesitate to let me borrow. He taught me all I knew about cars and trucks in my early years, and some how he always new if a tool was missing not long after I brought his tools back?
His favorite saying to me was "Why is it some guys never have time to do it right the first time, but always have time to go back and fix it?
He's almost ninety now, and I don't where I would be today if were not for his influence on me.

Integrity is something you will have after working a long time to create, but it only takes a moment of weakness to lose it forever! - Dad...
What is Integrity? - me... .
Always doing the right or correct thing, even when no one is looking!

Read the same thing in my grandpa's journals after both my grandpa and dad passed away. Heard it from my step-dad as well after my son was born.
I miss all of them. Definitely great advice. I have already passed it down to my son and hope someday he will share it as well as practice. ;-)

My boss for many years at the Corps of Engineers, whom I had the highest respect for, said during a discussion on food stamps and other give-away programs, "you can't help someone by giving them something".

Advice

I heard this more than once and I still use it to this day "If it's not worth doing right, don't do it at all!"

Another one I use ALOT espeacially with the bling crowd nowadays is "Form follows function" when I say this I usually get the DUH look and have to explain it, It might be pretty but if it doesn't do what it is supposed to do, what good is it?

Friday night advice "I might be drunk, but you're UGLY, and in the morning I'll be sober!"
