Smarty Jr. Give-Away (Contest ends: July 31, 2010)

When working with wood it was "Measure twice... then do it again. "

When underneath the car(s) trying to fix something it was "Quit pointing the light in my face dammit!"

I used to spend my summers working with my grandfather, who was a carpenter, when i was a kid. He would always tell me to measure twice and cut once.

I tell my kids that if you don't have time to fix it right the first time, how do you find the time to do it over again!

When wanting to stay out a bit too late - "Son, there are only two things open at 3 in the morning... gas stations and legs... "

Fathers Advice

When it came to maintaining cars and trucks my father intilled in me to; Always change the oil regularly, and always clean the bottom of the truck as you clean the top! ( to prevent rust ). A father figure taught me to take care of the little things and the big things will usually take care of themselves.

My father taught me so much about proper car and truck maintenance and preventive maintenance. One of the best thing he thought me was to alway keep good maintenance records because in a month or a year later, you will forget. He also taught me to be very detailed with my record keeping.

Whenever I go to sell a vehicle, the detailed maintenance record is what impresses the buyer the most.

If it doesn't fit force it.

Get a bigger hammer and

You can make a square peg fit in a round hole..... with a big enough hammer!

All jokingly of course... ... well except for the bigger hammer one once in a while!

Been in the shadows here a longtime going to try my 1st post. my gramp would say ''if you never make a mistake you never do anything''

My Dad was an Auto Mechanic for 30+ years and gave me a ton of advice. One that stuck is

"If it has Tits or Wheels, Yur sure to have trouble with it at some point"

thank you RDeFayett I am currently Deployed to iraq and it means a lot to me to hear you say to remember the one that serve this country.

happy 4th of July to all who entered and remember those that serve this great country and gave us the reason for the 4th!

I second that. GOD BLESS OUR TROOPS! Without you, those that came before you and those, that will hopefully not have to follow you, we would not have the freedom that we enjoy and take for granted.

Thank you, all vets, for your service and sacrifice.
