Family tree like a phone poll? Man, are you stressed out or what? I'm afraid you missed my whole point and maybe it's partially my fault as I've left out a small detail. The "expert" was a big wig from one of the power companies or the California gov't (I don't remember which). The point of my post was that the power company and the California govt. are putting the screws to you guys and basically coming on TV and saying, "Yeah, we're screwing you but it's for your own good. " How this quickly degennerated into refrences to family trees and such, is beyond me.

Thanks for that last comment Danandme. I was reading this and wondering where some people keep thier heads! What is happening in CA is just the tip of the iceberg. You folks in some of the other states had best be taking notes and paying attention. This will spread to other states, trust me. We are just getting the screwing first.

Stan

Lets face it most of us are proud of where we live and to listen to others rant on and on about something they know little about gets old quick. Daniel, if I offended you forgive me.

And BTW I am employed by the largest city government owned power company and proud of it as we are thriving while others, due to poor managing are going belly up! I believe that "expert" was our G. M.

Hits to close to home when they hit you at home!

Statland:
If memory serves me it was the Bureau of reclamation who built Hoover Dam in the 1930's, and the LADWP who operated it until 1987 when the BoR took it back, (50 yr contract) expired. When it was built they did not know where all of the power was going to be used, so the power was divided up with LADWP getting 6 units and operation of the plant

Doug

Brandon, you may not talk about our backwoods states, but you sure like our electricity. Your state's lack of building new power plants to keep up with demand is great, keep it up we like selling you cheap surplus hydropower at inflated rates. Just remember if we don't have any surplus tuff luck.

Doug, you are close... . It was the Department of the Interior and the B. L. M. who oversaw the work, however due to the experience on the L. A. aqueduct L. A. D. W. P. did the work. Kind of like when you see the big wigs with their chromed shovels and neckties on the T. V. and never see the sorry soul bust'in his butt! & units were hooked up to L. A. , I am not sure how many are currently.

No offense taken at all. Actually, I was kinda feelin' sorry for you guys, really didn't mean for the thread to turn into a flame fest.

If there is such a power shortage, how the HE11 do they plan on charging those goofy electric econobox cars?? #ad
I'll stick with my DIESEL truck, my PROPANE heat and my plentiful electricity... right here in GOD'S country of Georgia! #ad

As to the Nevada kid, you guys would'nt have I TRIED TO BY-PASS THE CUSSING FILTER if it weren't for CA money... we now buy power from the dam we built! Thats right, L. A. D. W. P. had a 50 year contract after that you guys get control of Hoover... . and we still have to be consultants to guide your state! Not to mention all those CA people running to Vegas (not me) every month. If it were not for tourism Nev would be a dustbowl... what have you got besides Reno and Vegas?

GET OVER IT!
hey, Statland--the Hydroelectric dam* near ALL goes to So Cal to begin with. LV gets the majority of its electricity from coal-fired (that's right, gotta be transported!) plants in the deserts nearby.
What irks us in So Nev about your state's historic "head in the ground" (being kind about location!) attitude toward the reality of a growing population and need for greater production capability, in the name of "environmental issues" is that, now that crunch-time has finally arrived, some rep. from one of your state's various electricity suppliers asked for (AND GOT! for cryin' out loud) a variance from the EPA to burn more coal and pollute more air for more kW... the plant in question is a steam plant near the Colorado river, and feeds the "grid" in California, but is located on Nevada soil. The liberals on your side of the Ca/Nev border like to brag about being enviro-kind/ and eco-cuddly, but basically told our people, "screw you, Nevada!" we didn't plan ahead, and now you get to breathe more fumes... . The plant in question WAS in emissions compliance before. I don't know whether it has been able to maintain that. As for us not having s#!T without California next door, we also can't find parking places in our own city on a weekend, and God help any Nevadan who has to go into California Sunday afternoon for business Monday morning. He's on the road with your neighbors. the hungover( if sober at all!) exhausted morons who spend their weekends here. Yours are not the only tourists. Yours are just the most numerous bringing their own cars, rather than flying. As for the "get over it" that you post at the ends of your paragraphs, keep that to yourself and turn off some appliances instead. You might start with your computer, since you didn't add much accurate information to the "thread" anyway..... and as the Highway Patrol says, "have a nice day".

forget it this isn't worth my time. This is a pretty good web site, but a topic like this just brings out the true colors in people.

I am proud to be an American and a californian

In your words, Rich, "screw you, Nevada"! After all CA is the 7th largest economy in the world! So more power to us!!!

Hey Stat, take a chill pill!!!! If you want to throw up the borders, believe we Texans could do quite well by ourselves. Plenty of fossil fuels, great infrastructure. Not sure where we rate number wise but it has to be close to the big C as far as the economy size. I like Cali, been there a couple of times. Actually would not mind living in the northern part.

Pure and simple, the politicians allowed this to happen to the people of your state. Back in the Oil Bust (late 70's early 80's) Texas **** near went bust. Property values were cut in half it seemed overnight. The state diversified and now has a stronger economy for it. We to experience the influx of immigrants from south of the border, but somehow manage to keep the lights on. We don't have to buy electricity because generation plants were allowed to be built. Most run on Natural Gas, and believe me we will feel the effects (sp) of the dramatic price increase in our wallets to i. e. Fuel Surcharge.

Natural gas is abundant off of the coast of Cali, but the enviro-nazis throw hisssy fits when people talk of drilling for it. This could easily be used to fire the Generation plants if allowed by the state. But as long as the few control the many in your state, it won't happen.

Just my $. 000000000002

Come on Richy, like I said there is nothing wrong with being proud of where you live. I defensiveness. NAH! I am certain that deep inside you are a. o. k. , Prozac and granola never touch the stuff and if I did I would not inhale! #ad
