How do I stop my dog from peeing in my garage? Everytime and I mean everytime I leave the garage door open when I am working on something, my oldest chow thinks he needs to mark the garage as his territory. That f'er has timing, as I've never caught him doing it, yesterday was the last straw, I was making a dog run for when the gas meter reader pays me a visit, I have somewhere to put the two dogs, I go to get some tools and just great, this time he hit my air compressor. I'm tired and ****** off of having to clean everything he marks on top of what I am working on. I've tried shutting the door everytime I leave but that becomes a hassle. Any suggestions, something I can spray or ?. Rubbing his nose in it has not worked. I'm not going to hurt him, I would just like a dry garage.





It is a detached garage, maybe someting I can sprinkle around so he won't come near?

The smell might discourage him if you can deal with the smell too. "nother idea--- You say it is a detatched garage. Don't know if you have concrete, asphalt etc right up to the garage door, but is there a way to install a type of french drain with openings (similar in idea to a cattle gaurd) I know that the stairs out side of our office has metal steps with holes for drainage that dogs can see down to the ground. I don't know if this would actually work on a level plane without the depth though.

How about the "invisible fence" that I have heard of?

does he do it in the same area? if so have you used bleach or vinegar to clean it up so the dog does not smell the old pee.

I know rubbing the dog's nose in it has worked for house training, but as you have mentioned it hasn't seemed to work for you. Maybe a shock collar, but you would have to watch him and shock him while he's doing it or right before he does it.

I am not a dog trainer, but I have heard that you must catch him in the act then do the rubbing of his nose in it. Else, if you do it after the deed was done, the dog has no idea of why the response. A smack on the nose will be enough punishment, but it has to be RIGHT at the time of incedent.

He only started doing this since we got the puppy. He's hit my ct70 mini trail tire, boat trailer tires, a couple of cases of bottled water, the air compressor, a couple of other things I cannot remember right now. The floor is concrete. I've been using water and an citrus base cleaner. The water was in an enclosed box and fortunately he only got the box. Now I'm thinking about a collar that is suppose to keep the dog inside your property but don't know how to go about the wiring. It is supposed to be buried, not practical with the concrete.



I've had dogs all my life and have never had one claim the garage before.

My neighbor's dog is doing the same thing. I talked to the neighbor about it. We have yet to come up with a good way to stop him. I'm trying to keep the door closed, but it doesn't always work.



He left my yard in a hurry the other day when I did some early morning target practice with the Berreta. I didn't even shoot near to him either.

Try tying him up, or maybe try ammonia around the area.

Please whatever you do DO NOT USE AMMONIA!!!! Old pee smells just like ammonia. Instead use Natures Miracle to clean up the mess. yes you must catch him in the act the then punish him (yell NO) as loud as you can. Scare him into stopping. rush him outside and when he goes praise, praise and feeding of snacks immediately after he goes outside will encourage him to do right. This is how I have housetrained my dogs. He needs to be taken back to his puppy days. One question is he fixed? If not then get hom fixed. This would also help in the situatio.

I know one guy who ran electric fence wire to any insulated metal and ran the wire 6" off the floor around everything else. Truned the sucker on and waited, ARRRRRRFFFFFFF, dog was knocked out cold and when he came to, no more prob.

We did the perimeter fence route several years ago. It worked for one dog but the other was too headstrong. The system begins to deliver a shock as the animal approaches it and peaks when they are directly over the wire. It falls off at the same rate on the other side.



The instructions say to train the dog over a period of a month. My wife gave ours the summer course and that might be why only one of the dogs worked out.



Run the wire in the expansion joint in front of the garage if there is one. The wire is about 16 ga. and needs to make a loop.

I bought a shock collar for my trenching dog, it was a real pain in the a$$. I had to waste a whole Saturday drinking beer and waiting for the little wench to dig a hole. It finally paid off. I would shock the ***** out of her everytime she scratched at the ground. I would shock your dog every time he walks near the garage. That will fix him!!!

Been looking into the collars, that is what I am going to get. Regarding the shock collar justinp20012005, don't know if I have a full day Saturday to drink beer and wait him out, I might just end up saturating his dog house and call it even. Thinking about the wireless system for indoors.

This Thread reminds me of my uncle and his dog lot. He had female dogs in a pen and he ran a strand of electric fence wiring around it since it was close to the horse pasture. My dad and uncle are outside watching the stray male dogs going crazy trying to get to the females and one dog pees on the electric fence.



Poor mutt went across the horse pasture(100yds) with his leg still up and yelping at the top of his lungs. Never seen that dog again.

My nephew did the same thing, forgot the fence was wired, he still has a shy bladder outdoors. Family still laughs about that one.
