I keep seeing posts about "VP" and lift pumps going out, south of the boarder etc... . $1100 bucks and so on.

Don't tell me I should have just stayed with my O'l 12 V!!! LOL

I hear a electric pump when I turn on the key. I am assuming thats the "Lift pump?" Bad design or is there a good/better replacement ? Every 30,000 miles???

I am assuming again that "VP" is probably the equilvalent of the 7100 on the 12v, but not mechanical?

I did a search on lift pumps and got even more puckered up.

No fuel pressure means?= Lift pump bad? How does the motor get fuel then?

Sorry to ask all the newbie questions, but this truck is new to me. .

Thanks again for any help.

PS: I also read changing the fuel filter, then pressuring the fuel tank???WT-&^%$#@???

don't get really upset:eek: i have 117000 on my 2001. 5 and never a lift pump issue, i still have 11psi at idle and 7 at WOT. To my knowledge its just a poor design but i am not a expert on lift pumps. yes the pump you hear when you bump the starter is the lift pump. if the lift pump does fail, as long as the system doesn't need priming for some reason the Vp will suck the fuel from the tank, but the VP uses excess fuel to lube it, when the lift pump dies there isn't enough excess to lube the VP and now you have a problem:eek: also I have never pressurized the tank with a filter change, i think that is mainly if you have a dead lift pump to help get the canister primed. . The best thing i would do to ease your mind about a failure is install a FP gauge!

Just get a hand held pressure test gauge to make sure you lift pump is giving you 15psi idle and no less than 8psi or so at WOT.

After that enjoy your 24V and don't loose sleep over it. The odds are you wont have a problem. Even though I've had all the problems you mention, I know there are thousands more who haven't had the first problem. The most powerful tool you can have is the knowledge of these problems. Its good to just be aware.
