You guys MUST Straight pipe your trucks!

I took my tailpipe off yesterday and tried to gut a little of the inside of the muffler. i then drilled a bunch of holes in the muffler. It sounds like a big rig now The turbo swoosh is much better too. I decided i would do this and destroy my stock exhaust since I am ordering an exhaust from jegs. They have a 4" t304 stainless steel exhaust for out trucks for $499

Is the Jegs exhaust a mandrel bend system? If it is, it looks like a good deal. The system I got was $487 but it wasn't t304. I live in AZ so rust and corrosion doesn't concern me.

Ya, its a mandrel bent system that comes with stainless steel hangers and clamps. In Ohio, things get pretty rusty.

Well boys,



I straight piped my truck today, after installing an Edge box yesterday.



By straight piped I mean that there is no exaust left whatsoever from before the muffler back.



Man it sounds great. I swear I am driving one of my straightpiped Macks. I probably am too loud for the noise nazis, but oh well.



Just wanted to let you all know.

Put a straight thru 7" diameter muffler on mine,has a little HISS or SHHHHH at idle from the tailpipe. Is this normal or do I have a muff problem.

QUESTION

Hey you guys with the straight pipes... When you took off your muffler and put on the straight pipe did you replace the hanger and weld one on the straight pipe? I am wondering if you all did because i am not sure but i think there is some vibration in my exhaust system and im guessing its coming from the straight pipe area...

I installed my Geno's muffler elimination kit today and all I can say is OH MY GOD!!!! You guys have to straight pipe thses trucks..... What an awesome sound!!!!! I have had perma-smile all evening driving it around.

I picked up the girlfriend this evening and she intially could not tell that I had done anything..... as soon as I got on the road I opened her up and the first words out of her mouth was "you big dork"!!!!!

It's loud as hell when you start out put as soon as your speed levels out it really quites down. Driving 70mph down the highway with the windows up, the new sound is barely noticeble..... IMO no louder than my 5. 9L with exhaust... ...

Hey if I'm a big dork for making the roads safer by letting everyone know that a big a** diesel is headed you way... . well then "baby"... ..... I am a dork!!!!

Simply awesome!!!!!!!!!!!

definately weld everything up if you can... that made a HUGE difference in the resonance on my truck... once I welded all the connections and put a couple more hangers on to better hold the pipe in place, the interior resonance was GREATLY reduced!!!

I installed the Geno's muffler eliminator on mine and ran it for one day. It was way too loud for me and my "old" ears. I like the way it sounded but I like the way "quiet" sounds even better. BTW I will sell it cheap if someone wants it.

I love the straight pipe. Especially with this Dodge. I had a Dmax and the straight sound was much more raspy. This one is cool. I get Harleys around me all the time that drown me out so whats the big deal?

I remember some saying that the 3rd gens with straight pipes didn't sound good because there was a lot of "whooshing" air noise. Is this not the case? Does the exhaust note sound like a 2nd gen without the engine clatter?

I don't hear any wooshing. I hear my exhaust... turbo whistle while she spools and a nice jet engine sound when I let off.

i liked the sound of it. On the way to school id go in the right lane next to the huge walls along the highway and go WOT and holy crap it was so loud it even scared me a few times :-laf I miss my truck

i went back to a muffler , instead of the straight pipe i will sell the pipe which is a direct fit for $20. sorry i used the clamps for the muffler... . anybody interested
