I am waiting for my ATS manifold and Piers turbo to arrive. I thought as long as I'am in town (50mi from home) I will pick up the manifold gaskets. I now sooner walk in the Cummins Dealer and my cell phone rings, its my garage calling telling me to buy the exhaust manifold gaskets. The deliery guy stopped by a few moments before and the local dealer wanted 118. 00bucks for the gaskets. the mechanic told him to take them back and the called me. Cummins got the gaskets and when he rang the bill up for the 6 gaskets it was 20. 31 WOW! I called the shop back and they opened an account with Cummins. Can you beleive that markup. Too Much! Dave:)

It is amazing how much markup there is on some things. Juat think when you do get a better deal they are still making money which means there is still a profit margin in there somewhere.

There is even a huge difference in prices between the stealers. The stealer on my side of the island charges 50% more for parts than the one on the other side. Since the other stealer is only a 25 min. run over the hill, I go there is necessary. Otherwise I try to get parts from any place else but... .

Oh ya, how about this...

several local Dodge dealers were called to compile/substantiate prices with the other dealers...

the transparent instrument bezel COVER (notice I said cover) will run you a cool $103. !!!! A hundred and three dollars plus for that wimpy instrument bezel cover???? BTW, this does NOT include ANYTHING else. :mad:

another example (this time I bit)...

I ordered a replacement CHMSL (third brake light/bed light) cover gasket from the dealer without checking the price first ( :rolleyes: ), I know, I know, shame on me! Anyway, when I received the gasket I find out I'm on the hook for ten dollars and eight friggin cents. . plus sales tax!!!!:mad: The aforementioned gasket is made of the same cheap gray foam gasket material used for weatherization gaskets in light switches, recpticals etc. in newer houses... and they only cost about a dime each (if that)! :eek::eek:

Talk about third degree rape!

And the list goes on ...

Dealer Prices vs Competitive Market Pricing

Vacuum Pump for a '95:

Dealer = $980 (but for me, because I'm "special", only $780)

Local NAPA Dealer (which tend to be slightly higher than most of the other parts dealers in town) = $289.

Stems for lug nuts:

Dealer = $12. 59 each ($3. 50 for each nut)

Napa = $2. 10 (slight grinding needed to remove raised lip near head)

Plastic one-way Dohickeys to attach door panel to door:

Dealer = $2. 39 each

Lumber/Hardware Store = 0. 35 cents

You'll PAY if you don't shop around ...

Try this one on for size...

Took my truck in to get a transmission leak looked at. Turned out to be the output gasket on the T-case. A $40 for a seal plus $240 for labor and I was back on my way... next time I'll call my buddies and buy some BUD LIGHT. . (JKloppe... )

Oh yeah!

How about this... . overhead console computer, over 2000 smacks. Local junkyard, 250 smacks. Thats alot less smacks. You would still be peachy color instead of black and blue. :D :D :D :D :D

Hey Guys,

I was at the dealer last night picking up my new aluminum wheels. The parts guy (Ken) kind of indicated that he would like to sell our group more parts (he gives our chapter a discount - I think it's wholesale). Anyway, I asked him if I should post it and he said "Sure, why not. We've enjoyed working with you guys and haven't had any problems, and I'd rather sell some things for a little profit than not sell anything and make nothing. "

So, here is their website: www.pommerening.com

Pommerening Dodge in Oshkosh, WI

Phone # is 920-236-3110

They will ship UPS. I realize that this won't be worthwhile for nickle and dime stuff but for big ticket items (my wheels look cool!) it could save you a bunch.

Enjoy!

Almost fell over..........

We got a hood liner for the 02 from the stealer. I was foolish to assume it would come with the clips. They wanted $3. 61 each for those little plasctic pieces of junk. I pitched a fit and they dropped the price to $1. 31 each. Still to high in my opinion.

Tells you they have room to play though. Next time your getting parts ask em for the best price. Seems I have a decent parts guy as he has lowered several other items for me also.

They are "NO JOHNNY" come lately's, They started the on-line wholesale Dodge parts thingOo. Oo. Oo. :D :cool: Oo.

Pommerening isn't an on-line seller. I gave the web address so anybody interested could find the 800 number, the host was down when I posted.

The deal we get from Pommerening is better than Mopar for less. We've compared prices on a few items and Pommerening always came in a little lower.

Just returned from a weekend trip to Oregonee. I cant beleive the post you guys have put up. Just goes to show you how much the dealer really makes on parts and service. They could afford to sell the trucks at wholesale and they would still make a killen!. Thanks for the interesting post, Dave:)
