Awhile ago I purchased a Volant cold air intake system for my 03. Prior to the purchase I of course researched it to death about filtration and particulates levels. I discovered that the kit was very well built and came with the replacement tubing so as not to reuse the nasty stock ribbed and finned stuff. The only thing I didn't care for is had the equivalent filter to the original AFE. I so wanted it to come with the then new "proguard 7. "

Long story short I have been in contact with the manufacture to see if they ever intended to upgrade their filter or offer a prefilter sock. I made them aware of TDR and the impact we have on the Diesel market.

***They are very interested in your input regarding what filter they should offer in their kit. *****

(if things go well, sales may follow and group discount rates )

Please email the owner of Volant cold air intake systems at:

Thanks Guys... . Tom

If you really want to make your head hurt on filter talk, check out this thread

For me the ideal filter would be paper and rated just the same in filtration as the factory filter but with a higher CFM.

Below is what I sent them per your request:

I would buy a filter and or intake system with these features:

1)Paper element rated using the industry standard of 10" or 14" H2O like the factory filter

2)A CFM that is higher than the factory filter at 10 to 14" H2O

3)Little or no noise increase

4)Cold air inlet

Intake changes is really a big deal to the Diesel guys, just check out this thread:

Hope this helps your R&D

I'm in complete agree'ance with Matt400.

I want a paper element. Don't want to mess with oils, etc. (and, if I did, it would most certainly be the proguard7). A BHAF would be perfect, if there were a good housing to go with it.

The stock box doesn't have good breathing methods. I'd like a good CAI system.
