My lift pump died on me a couple days ago with what I thought was no warning. I ordered my fuel pressure gauge before this happened, but have yet to install it (oops). So how can you tell if your pump is dying without a gauge? One thing I noticed but chalked up to the cold weather was that the MPG on my computer was down, like 3 to 4 MPG. I thought maybe it had magically become accurate or something... Also, my turbo was not boosting up like it used to, especially when I was already on the move. Again, not sure why. Checked for boost leaks but nothing I could find. Maybe the cold and winter fuel? Hey, I'm pretty new to diesel repair. Anyway. Pump died, got a new one. MPG's back up and I just saw 40PSI on my stock turbo according to my Edge Attitude. Is that too high?

I think that the stock turbo on the "600" engines is reliable with 40 psi bursts. That is probably the limit and I wouldn't run it that high for an extended period. I know with a stock truck, big load and high winds I have run 30 psi for hours, I wouldn't be as comfortable running 40 psi under similar conditions. I have had no problems pushing mine to 40 regualrly though.

Not sure, but I think the edge will only see 40PSI max due to the map sensor.

With a mechanical gauge you may see that you are actually running it higher then that.

The only lift pump failure warning I got was the slightest hiccup on the freeway about 20 minutes prior to it quitting like a light switch turning off. And with no power, steering and braking were hairy at best IMHO.

Same here, a couple of hiccups on the freeway and BAM! It was dead. I had dynoed a week before at 451HP, so lower power wasn't an indication.

Luckily, it died right as I was pulling in the parking lot at work.
