I bought mine from the TireRack.com. They were by far the least expensive place I could find at $85/tire. Locally I was getting prices of $105-$125.

I am only about 1. 5 hours away from their location in South Bend, IN so to save on ~$50 shipping I drove down and picked them up. I guess I only saved $30 because I probably spent $20 on fuel, but it was an excuse to get away for the afternoon :)

How about an update from those of you that have been running the terra grappler for a while now? 295s specifically. Any problems? Traction? Wet traction? Winter? Wear?

Thanks
Ted

Well, at about 20k the tires were toast.

I would not recommend anyone put the 285's on the stock 6. 5" rims. The centers wore out with lots of tread left on the sides.

Last week I put Uniroyal Loredos back on, 265's and it's a much more pleasant ride now.

As for traction, the nittos did great in dirt, snow, rain... decent tire. But if you're doing mostly highway trailoring, I wouldn't recommend them.

curatchko,

Do you think the tires were really the problem or more so that they were on too narrow of a rim? What tire pressures were you running?

Grappler Update

325-65R-18. I have run them almost 2 seasons and they are ready to be replaced. I had one flat (not the tires fault) and I put my spare on when I put them back on for the season so both fronts (new ones) are still good but the rears have about had it. I may make it through the rest of the season. I do not run them during the winter. I like the way they look but I am very disappointed in the wear. I am guessing that I am only getting about 20k out of them. When I ran 295/75/16 BFG's I could get closer to 30k. I ran the BFG's a few times during the winter and feel that they grip better than the Nitto's. I have run both tires off-road (mud, sand nothing radical) and the Nitto's did better. The Nitto's definitely feel better at speed (117mph) the the BFG's.

All in all the Nitto's are good tires but I felt that I got better all round service and wear out of the BFG's and will probably replace the Nitto's next year.

I am at 45k on my BFG at 295/75r16 and am debating whether to stick with the bfgs or switch to nitto. For the most part right now I need road handling, wet traction and snow. As it turns out I will be able to get the BFGs for about 11 dollars less per tire than the nittos but lets leave that out of the decision for now.

Thanks

Ted

For what you want your tires to do I think you will be happier staying with BFG. The Nitto's are a great highway tire and even feels better at high speeds but I feel more comfortable on real wet roads and trails with the BFG's. And as I mentioned earlier tire wear for me was much higher than my BFG's with no change in driving habits.

Just My Humble Opinion

thanks for the link cooker. i had aready looked there. As it turns out the price i have is really a toss up after mounting and balancing for the nittos plus I will get road hazard and lifetime service on them here. I think the issue is that there is no one around here that moves a lot of nittos so they can cut a much better deal on the BFGs. I am leaning toward the BFGs again as I got rather remarkable longevity out of them and they are just a little taller. I was hoping that the Nitto would turn out to be a great tire but it appears to be marginal.

Thanks for the input

Ted
