I believe you need six gallons total of antifreeze in a 3rd gen (it's in the owner's manual... ). I used 4 gallons of antifreeze and two gallons of distilled water for a ratio of 65/35 which will give maximum freeze protection (-84 F if I am not mistaken).

27 qt capacity, 4 gallons gives you a 60/40 split, which should be good for somewhere in the -40 to -50 range. 70% coolant gives the max freeze protection at -90*F, but will sacrifice some cooling capability on the hot end.

Just like all these new oils coming out, it is backwards compatible for anything previous. But, why fuss with the stuff. Good ol' green Prestone is more then enough for any CTD !!!

HOAT is very pickey, and when mixed with non-HOAT coolant it can do damage to your cooling system. Unless you know for certain you got 100% of the HOAT out of your motor I wouldn't run anything but HOAT. For reference I did 5 flushes on my motor and couldn't get all the OE fluid out, the motor still holds about 2-3 gallons when its fully drained.

Here is a coolant flush write-up I did.

Fleetguard claims their formulations are compatible.

I've been running Fleetguard PG since March 2004 with no cooling system maintenance. The flush "procedure", if you can call it that, was drain, drive, drain, drive, refill.

I guarantee all the old fluid was not removed. I'll certainly let the board know when my cooling system goes bad.

Good deal on the compatibility. I found data, nothing 100%, that lead me to believe that "general" compatibility didn't include HOAT, so I maintained the factory fill. But its 5 year, 150K mile coolant so its okay with me.

I just replaced mine with Zerex G05 in the gold bottle it is yellowish/clear in color in stead of the red that came from the factory? It is 5 year 150,000 mile stuff, i believe the red is extended life. Is that what i need???

I just bought 4 gal of Zerex G 05 from Napa in Pensacola. Price was 13. 05/gal. that was with the counter discount. Think it said 14 something on the shelf. They had cases of it so it cant be too scarce. Having a water pump, tensioner pulley, idler pulley. serptine belt and lower raditor hose put on tomorrow while ther replacing the water pump cause it leaking. I'm giving the guy 4 gal of the Zerex and 4 gal of distilled water and all the parts. Hes just doing labor and getting rid of the old stuff.

BTW. I ordered all my parts from Genos on Monday afternoon and got them today at 1200 in Pensacola with UPS 2day shipping (14bucks). No tax... gotta love it and I never left my house!... ...

My manual says 29 quarts for an 05 fluid capacity. I dont think the service center will get it all in but I'll add the rest later.

It will be good for 600K must be good stuff!!!! wonder if the coolant hose's and water pump and thermostate will. If not it will need to be replaced BEFORE you find out if indeed it would go 600k JMO. Zerex GO5 at Napa $11 . 90 per gal AND WILL LAST AS LONG AS THE PARTS WILL.
