Good-bye EcoDiesel, Hello Cummins

The OOIDA did sue Commiefornia over the DPF retro-law. I quit delivering auto parts and RV’s there because of CA’s DPF retro-law. Fun fact the current VP was the CA AG named in the lawsuit. Interstate Commerce Clause was more or less thrown out of court as not proper venue: what is proper was not answered!

Bluntly this upcoming election has consequences for Diesel Power!

Interesting. I learned something new. I don't really follow California too too much. As far as the political side, you are correct.

The 2010 or newer requirement is for vehicles over 14k GVWR. It caught a bunch of small business owners in a pinch. The stupid part was they were all sold out of state, so our border states suffered the emissions. The net effect was we just moved the concern from us to you. Politicians never think about the consequences of their decisions.

This I knew about. Lots of YouTube videos. Folks don't realize that this drives up the cost for everyone for goods.

In any event, let's not get sidetracked with politics... don't want to see the mods get mad at us all and lock the thread.

Here's some higher resolution pictures with an article from StellPower.

They are all saying that there is something up as to why all the air flow for the grill. I'm hoping HO and ZF.

According to Motor Trend, Stellantis doesn't expect to release any more info until after 2025. (As for real information, Ram tells us to expect the official reveal with full details at the beginning of 2025. -- https://www.motortrend.com/news/2025-ram-2500-3500-heavy-duty-first-look-review/)

My truck has no chrome it’s a tradesman Flame Red I just waxed it up a bit before winter. Three years the paint still looks good three very small chips . I will fix them with some touch up paint. I suppose I need bit of flat black touch up paint some chips on the front bumper. I don’t miss the chrome at all

I think it really depends on the body color... I think the Night Ed looks good on white, silver, black... but on the dark red like mine I think the chrome / black chrome accents look better... Ofcourse glad we have choices as nobody would agree on everything

I HATE the damn Chrome used poorly on the interior of my Tradesman. It has the Chrome Appearance Group option. I have tape covering the front seat center console storage chrome latch from the glaring sunlight reflection it gives off under frequent just right conditions. The chrome RAM logo on the steering wheel is also a glare problem.

I've had to do a bit of that myself. Currently my daily driver is a diesel Volkswagen and I put my ball cap over the console shifter because the whole thing is chromed plastic. Thankfully it's an automatic, would make shifting gears pretty tough! Terrible design.

My 07 Jeep Compass was had a chrome cap on the stick shift. I wound up getting bike tape and going over it to give it a soft/anti-slip grip. Didn't look pretty, but every couple years I'd replace it.

On another forum someone emailed ZF asking about when they should service the ZF-8 in their truck iirc they were told 5-6 years, 80k max, 50k if towing frequently, its FCA and an a few other manufactures that got the bright idea that claim the ZF ATF is life time, but when you ask them how long that lifetime is they refuse to say...

That’s an easy one… “Lifetime” for the OEM is equal to the Warranty-Period. Since the driveline warranty (on mine) is 5 yers/100K miles…. if I never change the fluids the OEM is unlikely to have to buy me a new transmission….but around 120K I will pay them for one myself.
However, if I change the fluid/filter at 50K….and again at 100K….and again at 150K…. and again at ..etc etc etc.

How many want a new 7.2l Cummins?

I hear in 2027/28 Cummins wants to try an electric-heated DPF too for EPA 2027 rules.

If they go the 7.2l, I would not want to "try" one until several years after sitting and reading plenty of TDR posts and magazines. Personally I'm happy with the 6.7l Cummins output, especially if it's already tweaked out. Basically in my eyes, the current 6.7l is already a reliable power source and refined on what the 5.9l was lacking. Just want that Powerline 8 speed and I'll be a happy camper (as long as that proves reliable!).

While I like change, I also like to see it be proven in the hands of the people using them on a regular basis. Not "lab" results...
