Break down 06 on freeway!

Awsome write up! I manage an IT engineering group for a manufacturing company all of you know. We produce quite a bit of documentation for use inside of the company. I'm going to use this thread as an example of how to write good how-to docs.

Sag2: you are da man!!!!!! Your timing for posting your injector removal/install procedure couldn't have been any better!!!!! I had planned on removing my 04 injectors today(Sunday). The only thing I did differently was removing the rocker box to allow easier access to the #1,3 and 5 connector retainer nuts.

When I first started to read this I thought to myself how in the world did you keep the motor that clean!!! Then I say it was not in the truck :-laf That is the best write up I have ever seen.

TDR should have a section (forum) for just this type of write up. A go to section on different things, like injector replacement, lift replacement, clutch replacement these type of things...

Again great job!!!!!

Thanks for all the kind words. I did cheat a little bit though. I went to a Dodge Sprinter Diesel class and they let me use the engine on a stand after class. It is just a tad easier on the stand then in the truck, but makes it very clear for photos.

I have more photos from another class of the fuel system testing procedure that is detailed in the TSB on CRD Engine Diagnosis. I will review them and if I can impose on Ryan one more time to resize and proof them against the TSB , I'll post those in the near future.

Great job except you forgot one thing! It looks as if you forgot to cover up the intake horn hole after removing it. Man I don't know how many times if I did not have a rag in their I would be fishing something out! Always thought about making a cover out of a piece of tin but never have time. Again NICE JOB!!

i think sag2 needs to recieve free membership from the TDR for that write up. what do you guys think? that type of write up and info will be worth many thousand to the readers on this board and non members and is part of the reason i joined way back when. good job.

FYI newbies: to save this info (drag and highlight only text and pictures and right click copy) just cut and paste into a word file (once in word file right click and click on paste) get you a folder and a 3 hole punch and save this info for when the time is right. i have folders full of this stuff.

Amen to the free membership for sag2.

I read on another forum that someone paid $6k to have leaking injectors replaced by the dealership. So if sag2's writeup saves just one person, it is significant.

On that other forum I mentioned that there was an almost new CTD on eBay for 6k.

I also would like to know where to get the tools. Is this proceedure the same on the 06s? Do you guys know if there is any residual pressure in the injection rail when truck is not running? It would be scary to crack a line open with thousands of lbs of pressure waiting to get out.

Miller special tools, 1 800 801-5420. They take credit cards.

And no, there should not be any residual pressure after being shut off for a minute.
