Break down 06 on freeway!

Did my injectors last week thanks to sag2's nice write up! Thanks again :D

That back injector is a pain, but other than that, everything went well.

You will have to remove the engine hoist bracket to get it back there.

I did remove the bracket. I still can't get the socket and wrench in there with that metal piece. I'll try to mess with it more tomorrow.

Does the engine need to be at TDC on #1 CYL before starting this procedure?

I guess I had better go buy a service manual. Nice information, Thanks sag2.

I pulled this info out of the search forums to ask this question, and almost immediately it was removed from todays posts. Did I do something out of protocol?? Or was it just a coincidence?

I saw your original post, but it didn't look off.

Anyhow, you don't have to put to TDC. However, it is good practice to check your valve lash since you will be removing your exhaust rockers and your in that far anyway. So if you have it at TDC before starting the procedure, it is one less thing you have to do later I guess.

Great info-

you are a asset to the TDR community! I echo most of the comments here like emphasis on torque wrenches, the photo quality, and attention to detail.

I hope to see you posting further info in the future!

Regarding the camshaft change (as mentioned by a poster) that sure would be a significant task, with this level of detail!

This info makes me want to buy and try some 40 hp injectors now!!

Man, am I ever thanking you for this. Very informative. Looks like the harness connectors for the injectors need to be removed also for access to 1,3, &5 tubes. Guess they come out after removing the retaining screws. This site is one of the best investments I have made. I am a gaser mech, with knowledge enough of the 12 valvers to get by. Thanks again.

I must have been sleepy when I replied as I did not look at the date of post. He still gets a big pat on the back from me.

Guess I could blame "Old Timers Disease" too.

Great Job! This would be ideal printed in the next TDR magazine! The only request I have is where can the special injector tool be purchased and how much?

sag2, Great write up!! I will be using this in the near future ;)

Miller tools can be bought directly from Miller.

SPX Miller Special Tools | Main

Miller special tools, 1 800 801-5420. They take credit cards.

And no, there should not be any residual pressure after being shut off for a minute.

125 for the injector puller and 10 for the injector tube puller.

from the website link in the top quote todays prices:

9010A = $143. 40

9015 = $10. 93

PS Nice writeup sag2.

What about cleanliness, what if your truck has to sit while you ship the injectors out, heard your not suppose to clean feed tubes in a parts cleaner tub, only ultrasonic cleaner.

I ran into a leaking injector and found this thread interesting.

I have not seen a leak before from this particular location but where the second set of arrows are in this pic, I see fuel leaking. Around the body down by the collar that has the two retaining bolts.

Anyone else ever see a leak here?

Great thread sag2!

edit

In looking at the below pic, my particular leak could be from a loose or cracked feed tube as the "O" ring above would not be capable of holding such high pressure and would push past the "O" ring and squirt out above the collar.

If this is the case then maybe a feed tube, brass washer & "O" ring is whats needed, any input appreciated.

i think sag2 needs to recieve free membership from the TDR for that write up. what do you guys think?
I think that is an excellent idea, his willingness to not only share his knowledge but also to take the time to produce such a detailed how-to with great pics deserves acknowledgement.

Yep, better than any book or support I have seen. On the injector Problem Matt400 had, it is common to hear that pressure destroys injectors this is true when having excessive pressure, one area over look why injectors fail is the waves and pulses produced by the cp3,extend the length of these waves the more damaging they become, we call it the hammering effect. Yes modded rails help to eliminate the effects of the pulses with low or high demands. 3Gen injectors are costly and can take out the entire motor. This is a help post not a $$$$$ I have more than I can spend. .:eek::eek: hmmmmm although I do like making it. :D

Yes but based on the injector & fuel delivery design, wouldn't you say the symtom of fuel in the valve cover area would be a feed tube issue and not an injector?

I have not heard of a bad injector leaking into the valve cover area but if the body were to crack I suppose its possible.
