I know it's a long shot, but I've got a Dodge Caravan (1998 model, I think) that had a dying battery. So I pulled the old battery and installed a new one.

The battery was disconnected for about 2 or 2. 5 hours while I ran around looking for the proper new battery.

When I put in the new battery, SES light came on. Checked the codes and got P0743, which is apparently the torque converter clutch solenoid electrical.

I swear, I didn't touch anything but the darn battery! I wasn't able to clear the code with my OBD-II software, and the light hasn't gone out after almost 10 restarts.

Test drove the van, and it appears to be functioning normally. All the gears work, and the converter locks up at the expected times.

This is my mother-in-law's car, so I'm a bit upset at possibly having to turn it back over to her with the SES light on.

Any advice would be very much appreciated.

Sounds wierd to me. Check that ALL the wires got hooked back up, a stupid little ground strap or a bad wire can do all sorts of funny stuff.

You could try disconnecting the battery for several hours or overnight, reconnect and see if it's still there.

Ya know the other thing I ran into the other day at work...

The little tester gave a code description that wasn't for the code in question. I'd look the code up on something else as well.

Shoot, I should've updated this earlier. The code disappeared on its own. I sort of figured that might happen.

The reason I thought of it... .

I had a Durango that had a Battery Temperature sensor. Yes you heard that right... .

It would set a check engine light.
