Bully Dog- Torque Dog On A Stock Automatic??

I know a guy who is running case hardened bolts in his 2nd gen with no problems. He is running over 70 psi of boost with nitrous and has never had a head gasket go?

what is your opinion of rediculous? buy some new age650 12mm arp studs that will make you cringe. the head studs from arp are around 400 give or take a few bucks.

our you could buy them out of a ARP catalog induvidually for a very good price.

hint hint you just got to match up the size and tensile strength you want.

So smokingrod, you're "hinting" you've done the ARP catalog purchase thing. If so, time to share, cost, part numbers, or at least offer to purchase the subject lit'l studs, package and sell em (profit for you, savings for us).

I'd be in for that.

I still think they are priced the way they are simply because people will pay it, i. e. it's what the market will bear.

If you buy a set of studs for $400 and divide that by 26 studs is around $15. 38/stud& nut

just some food for thought.

Ok got a question ?

any body running an O ringed head with stock bolts ?

Boost pressure your running ?

Is the stud thing same as Banks intake or anybodys exhaust manifold, lotsa dollars no gain.

just my thoughts, sorry but I like to see a gain for dollars spent.

And yes I do consider down time from blown head gasket as a gain.

Thanks

Oh no studs are worth it IMO unless you like changing head gaskets. Your not going to be able to torque a stock headbolt to 140+/- lbs. Look at the Dmax, with studs they hardly ever have headgasket failures even with aluminum heads. Look at it this way if your going to spend thousands on power upgrades, what's another $400. 00 for insurance? Most of us have spent WAY more than that for dumber stuff. :D

I agree, and will pay the price. But I still think it's nucking futs!

You know the old saying! If you play you pay. :{

Ain't that the truth.

I bought this truck to just be a tow rig for my rock crawler. I said "I'll keep this stock"

Yeah, OK, whatever. Started BOMB'n it and soon needed a $4K trans. Then my other mods caught up with my stock turbo so i dropped $1800 or so on a new one. Now I'll have to watch my boost/drive pressures until I put the studs, and possibly o-ring.

What's next?

I was looking around at head studs today and I just want to say that I also am appalled that companies like ARP are making 400$ + for a set of nuts and bolts. Highway robbery if you ask me...

Not if you break it down and price it by the piece as IC Smoke did.

Now factor in that these are not your cheap hardware store grade 5 or 8 bolts and the fact that alot of R&D went into making them. How many sets did they have to go through before they knew what material worked best. If they could be made cheaper with the same quailty I would think that someone would jump all over it, cut the legs out from the other companies to make a few bucks.

well said! its just money and Ill gladly pay the 400 since I DO NOT want to do a head re-moval again!! I didnt pull my head due to a blown HG, I did it to O-ring the head and stud it so it was mearly a saftey precaution so to speak.

I'm in the same boat to. I just ordered my Juice with Attitude.

I won't be able to "use" all the power until I get the studs and

a new head gasket. My truck is just a puller but I do like

to waste the kids in the imports once in a while for that

feel good feeling. hehehe

Hey IC SMOKE

So what I am getting is that once you O-ring and head stud you will never blow a head gasket ?

Nobody out there with studs or O-rings or both, ever blown a gasket ?

At twice the price studs would be worth it.

If everything on these trucks was that easy.

On my 3rd lift pump, 3rd injection pump and so on.

Not trying be a smartass, but I am pretty sure 1 of the 800hp plus guys is still on stock bolts. Sound like anyone ?

Just my 2cents.
