Has anyone used a superchips firefly system? Is it a pressure or timing system? It looks like the right amount of bump I am looking for. Thanks for any help

I have the Firefly system, I was a Beta Tester for them. It is basically the same as an Edge EZ with a Boost & Pyro guage built it. Read up on the specs of the EZ, I think they tell you more. What I DO like, is one gauge for both boost & pyro. I put mine is an SRT-10 Pillar mount, looks pretty cool.

The only problem is it has been too cold & snowy to really test it much for power & mpg gains. I think the concept is good just seems a little pricey. But most boxes are expensive! It is nice to just touch the gauge once to go to stage 1, twice to stage two and a third time to go to stage 3. A good pyro gauge will cost $150 & boost at least $50. The Firefly gauges move in a arc to show higher levels, so you don't get an exact reading. e. g. 1150 degs.

But they are marked in increments so you know where you're at. I am pretty sure Superchips told me it was pressure & maybe timing device. ;)

seemore... ... .

Would you post a picture or two of this unit and gauge and where you got it.....

Or a web link... .....

Thanks

And they will work on 07' 5. 9s, where as the J/A won't. I installed the same set up for a customer a week ago it's pretty neat and he loves it.

hey, can I get some feedback on the firefly from you guys that are using it. Any problems? Accuracy of the guage? Like it? Hate it? Smoothness of torque and boost? Wierd sounds? etc. Also wondsering if shift on the fly means while driving or at idle or what. Thanks for the feedback.

After having the Superchips Firefly for about 6 months and the weather finally getting better, I will make some observations. I like the setup, can't comment too much on the accuracy of the gauges, as I don't have anything to compare them too. You can't really tell the exact temp on the pyro because the moving part of the gauge is an arc. The pyro numbers start at 500 & go to 1500. When I shut down I just wait until the arc line is below the 500.

The system works pretty well, it is seamless changing settings. You touch the dial face once & the Firefly goes to the second setting, touch it again it goes up another notch, again up to the highest setting. And you can change levels under full throttle. Touch the face again & it goes down one level at a time and so on. Can't tell any mileage difference as I have only gone through a couple or three tanks of fuel since last Winter. The truck has only got 7000 miles on it & it is a year old!

The boost & torque comes on pretty smooth. It is tough to spin the rear tires even at the highest setting, but does run much stronger & faster than stock! Hopefully now that Spring is finally here I can check mileage better. Over the Winter I averaged 14-16 mpg. But most of that was short trips city driving. Also there is a cap, bed-slide & a couple of heavy toolboxes in the back. Just weighed the truck at 7400 with me in it.

I am trying to find something to tow to check out the power.

There's something on the market other than a smarty?!? After trying a smarty on a friends truck this weekend, I can't understand why anybody would get anything else. Use a sensible weight on the skinny pedal if you're worried about temps!! Love my smarty!!! I was never thrilled over those "digital" gauges. Let us know what you decide an how you like it.

Well seeing that I grew up and matured , maybe I don't want or need all that power & the chance of grenading my transmission & other associated parts!! What I CAN'T understand why you think everyone should have a Smarty. There are other options out there. I have a $45 thousand truck and a little more power is all I want or need. Plus it is nice to have a boost & pryo gauge in a SRT A-Pillar & keep my grab handle. Some of us are a little older & need a little help getting in & out. :D

I agree, not to mention there seem to be a fair amount of problems the smarty causes that no one mentions when they are saying how great it is.

There is nothing wrong with mild boxes that gives moderate power gains, I have a Quadzilla box that has worked great for me, both empty and towing.

My smarty has different power levels, a little, medium and lots. So if you don't want a lot... got it? Anyway, why don't you try the firefly or does hypertech make the hyperpac for the 3rd gen trucks? Try that. Or quadzilla, or whatever you want, sorry I mentioned a smarty. I'm not against other brands of stuff. Just let us know how you like your choice when you decide.

I didn't realize that when I grow up and mature I have to settle with less power... Man growing up sucks...

I DO HAVE the FireFly & like it!!

Hey Seemore, thanks for the info and input on the firefly-- it would be great to get some mpg numbers from you whenever you have the time.
Also, I am wondering if you did the install. Did it take long? Did the gauge sensors hookup easily or not. Thanks again. Anybody else using the Firefly?

I did the install myself, as with everyone else I was afraid to drill the hole in the exhaust manifold, but that turned out to be the easiest!Oo. I know I had less than 4 hours in the install, but I fabbed up a bracket to mount the control box to. The boost & rail sensors just plug in along with a 12v source for the fuse box. As Summer gets here & I drive more I'll post some mileage numbers, but I don't see it making a big difference as all that extra power is hard not to use!:-laf
