Anybody using Motorguard Bypass Oil Filters

Any experience with Torco Diesel Oils?

I was going to buy the 262 but I got lucky on Friday and got a deal on a Monster 290 on Ebay. Summit Racing had one auction that still had the price at $389. 95 :)

I though I read were the stocker flows way more then these fans

BBD Tinsmith3 posted in this thread the stocker is approx. 8000 CFM but doesn't say 2nd or 3rd Gen or ? https://www.turbodieselregister.com/forums/showthread.php?t=167748

Do you guys really think converting to electric fans will help fuel economy? Unless you have a defective clutch (where the fan is engaged much of the time) I doubt you're going to see any perceptible fuel savings.

--If you're looking for quicker warmup times block your radiator with something (leaving the center section open to allow normal fan operation).
--If you're looking for better AC performance install a single electric in addition to the stock fan to come on when the AC is engaged. This helps in low-speed situations during hot weather.
--If you're having trouble with overheating when towing then try cleaning the radiator and/or replacing the fan clutch.

Electrics seem to be a lot $$ to spend for unfounded MPG & performance improvement, but that's just MHO ;)

For 3rd Genners only: I talked with someone in the tech dept. at Flex-A-Lite about the availability for our 3rd Gen trucks. They don't have a set as of yet, due to the temp sensor on the radiator and fan clutch wiring, causing a CEL, and they are working on that now. I guess how to bypass the wiring for the clutch without causing a CEL. Until then, not available for our trucks.

Very Interesting !!

Another potential benefit comes to mind-

I have read that the "chirp" often heard on shutdown is the

rotating mass of the OEM clutch fan, squealing on the fan belt briefly.

(ie. that the fan assembly doesn't stop as quickly as the engine when shut off)

... and that this is a significant source of wear on the serpentine belt.

Seems that eliminating the clutch fan assembly would then also

eliminate the shutdown chirp, maybe extending serpentine belt life ?

Actually its the mass of the alternator that keeps rotating over the stopped belt.

There is a TSB for it. I did the TSB on my 05 and its a pretty slick part, a one way clutch for the alternator pulley.

I can't see a set of electric fans working any better than what is on a 3rd gen. For more info on vistronic drives check the pdf here:

You still have parasitic loss when the clutch is engaged, with electric fans you have almost no parasitic loss other than the slight amount from the alternator producing more current. The electrics also have the benefit of instant on/off based on temperature.

Kinda off topic of the electric fans, but I found a solution for the chirp. I ended up getting a Goodyear Gatorback belt from summit. I put it on, no more chirp. The part number is GTR-4080810 (summit #).

Also as far as the fans go, with the clutch totally locked up, I've read that it takes 27 hp.

I've found the chirp is from the AC compressor and the Goodyear belts are good, will eliminate it for awhile but as the belt wears the chirp will be back. Just what I've found over the years.
