What a great bunch of guys on the TDR. Have enjoyed the info for years. My 03 six speed -stock- has been flawless, a really fine truck. Just wish I had never seen the 07. 5--got the new truck bug BAD. As usual, I read then read some more etc to confirm my want of a new truck. The posts on the 6. 7 kinda give me the jitters. 20 regenerations in 2k miles, less than stellar mpg, some rep said to run it hotter to reduce regenerations, new emission stuff etc, you've seen the posts. Sure would like to hear more about mpg and emission control problems. I know its all a flip of the coin, buying a new truck and all, just want to feel good about the deal

FYI-brought my quote from Adam at Dishman to a local dealer in SE Texas-what the heck, I was curious as to how close he could come to Adam's figures. The owner didn't blink an eye and said he could do the same deal. Printed out the same exact form I had in my hand and gave it to me. He even ordered the truck as we spoke and said its mine when it comes in (5-6 weeks) or he will sell it--my choice. I was a little freaked at how easy it was to deal with this guy. My 03 is one phone call away from sold--now its cold feet time-this is why you guys get this long winded post. Thanks guys

If you're going to keep it stock..... go for it! It's got a warranty and a cummins! Nuff Said... There hasn't been any reported issues of major concern so far and the 6. 7 has been out for a while in the CC..... just dont expect to mod the exhaust or put a programmer on it anytime soon... . until the aftermarket figures out the dpf... .

NO WORRIES, go for it..... i would if i didnt have an 06.

I have a new 07' with the 6. 7 and the new six speed auto transmission and its been pretty much a killer rig. I have had her since 3-23-07 and she has 14K with 3 regens so far... I am planning to put the Bullydog PMT in the truck soon as I can buy one...

I haul a 27' gooseneck enclosed trailer 5 days a week with plenty stuff in it and the truck does pretty well with all of that. Fuel mileage is not so hot, but have more than enough hp to haul the load. transmission has been steller, jake brake also is to die for and with this new six speed auto its really great.

All in all its a great setup that will only get better with the aftermarket PMT and then once there is a aftermarket exhaust system to convert the OEM system to something more realistic for a diesel, it will be one hot rig JIMO...

I'd do it. I was in the same boat when I bought my 05. I had the best price I could get from Dave Smith in Kellogg, ID, then one day I was talking to the Malloy Dodge Dealer in Albuquerque. He matched Dave Smith's price and through in the 7 year free oil changes. Can't beat that.

IMO the only good things the 6. 7s have going for them is the new auto. trans. and the exh. brake. The smog stuff is junk IMO.

That is the main reason I was somewhat rushed to buy my 06.

Myself being a life long auto. mech. / hot rodder hobbiest during the 60's and 70's in Ca. I have no good memories about the new smog B. S. we had to deal that the Big Three auto makers hung on their engines.

Honda is developing a new clean diesel without all that after/burn B. S. and (soon?) the current stuff will be obsolete. (I hope )

If I were you, I would keep your good running 03 and wait for some better technology.

Good luck, Ray

Hey Scotty just stay away from those '07s, just say NO to a test drive :-laf

Seems spec'ing out a particular blue '03 at a BOMB party a few years ago did it for me, I ran out and bought a new '03 HO shortly thereafter :D

I am always one for new technology. I do agree since the early 70's until the mid-late 80's emission equipment seemed to be poorly done and always seemed to have issues. I think since the newer vehicles came out and technology got better there has not been to many issues with the emissions equipment. I just purchased an 07 6. 7 a few weeks ago and sold my trusty reliable 1995 suburban 6. 5 with 273k on it I never had any real issues with the truck I wanted my wife to take the truck and sell her ford but she did not like it because it was to loud and manly for her. She likes the 6. 7 she said wow that is really quiet and it does not stink when it runs. Maybe I am getting old but I have to agree with her it's more enjoyable to drive a quiet vehicle. No more turning the engine off in the drive through restaurants so they can hear me to take my order and no more waking up the baby at night. I was going to purchase an 06 or 07 with the 5. 9 and my friend advised me to wait for the 6. 7 since the transmissions in the 5. 9 were not holding up he works at a dodge dealership and said he was installing the 4th auto trans in an 06 5. 9 he said the new six speeds are substantially stronger. I also wanted the exhaust brake for towing I have some military trailers that weigh almost 3k empty and I need air brakes to run them. I feel that I made the right choice purchasing the 6. 7 six speed auto truck. It gets half the mpg of the suburban and does not ride nearly as nice but it is new and it should last me along time. Only time will tell how well they will hold up I feel confident that it is a well engineered vehicle setup.

Looks like you might have to get one for your wife now.

What dealer? If you don't want to post the name here, please PM me.

Thanks, Bill

She does not like the Dual rear wheels I think once she gets used to it she will like it more. We want to sell her 1999 Ford expedition and get her something better that truck has somehting new wrong with it on a weekly basis

That's what I keep hearing about Expeditions. A good replacement for that Expedition is a Toyota 4Runner. :)

Don't worry about the new engine. I now have over 41,000 miles on my 6. 7 cab and chassis, it hasn't missed a beat. I'd really like to know how someone knows when they are having a regen, I don't anymore. At first I could tell because of the lack of the ULSD I would smoke quite a bit when it did it, since I have ULSD available, I don't ever know when it does it. I do pull a trailer all the time, but my temps very seldom go over 200 except on big hills with a heavy load. Again, my truck is a C&C with the 2007 compliant engine, not the pickup with the 2010 engine. Maybe there is a difference, I don't know.

I know the truck is regenerating by watching the EGT gauge peg at 1200 degrees for a period of time - for no apparent reason. Also, the dealer's computer showed 42 regenerations the first 2K miles.

Were you having a problem? Why in the world would you go back to the dealer in the first 2000 miles.
