Do all these trucks shake like crazy when you turn the motor off? I am in the habit lately of making sure I turn my motor off when the doors are still closed. If I do it when my door is open, it shakes the crap out of the door and seems like it will be hard on the hinges.

Thanx.

If you shut off your truck with the clutch out (not in gear, duh) it will shake and sound pretty bad. If you hold the clutch in and shut it off its not nearly as bad. Dont ask me why, just know that i tried it both ways. You will get used to it, either way. I leave my truck in nuetral when i shut it off because of my turbo timer (truck continues running). I dont notice it much anymore because i hardly ever hear it shut down. Although i have been asked why its so loud... I just say "because its a diesel" Gotta love the CTD! :-laf

Yep, pushing the clutch in helps. When you shut it off with the clutch disengaged only the motor shakes, with the clutch engaged it shakes the transmission also. The clatter you hear is the POS dual mass flywheel, pushing in the clutch will quiet that down also.

As for why it shakes in the first place... ... its a diesel:D

Thats one of my favorite parts about owning this truck! When it starts it scares women and small children too. Mine is a quiet common rail, 12 valve really makes em jump.

Massive flywheel + LOTS of diesel compression = shakes! :-laf

Ever since my first Dodge diesel - the '91 - I've made sure to always have all doors closed when starting up or shutting down the engine. Those wimpy gasser door hinges, especially when the door is wide open, just take a beating when the engine starts or shuts down - might as well be hitting them with a 20 pound sledge hammer!

SO, for 17 years now, my truck doors hang and close just fine - as some other guys wonder why theirs sag or crack the sheetmetal around the hinge pads... ;)

Pay attention to the little things, and the BIG ones are lots less likely to bite ya in the arse... :D

I'm another diesel head who carefully abides by the "doors shut at shutdown" rule. It's most annoying when I have passengers who immediately begin exiting the vehicle the moment I pull up to a stop. I have them go ahead and get out & shut the door before I shut down. The uninitiated amoung my circle of friends think I'm a bit off-kilter :-laf

My '98 shakes the truck hard, being it's an automatic with less rotational mass, and always chirps the belt.

About 3 months ago my truck suddenly began to shake excessively when I would shut if off. I have know idea why. Its enough that the belt now squeals everytime I turn if off. Kinda bugs me that it just started one day.

Thanx guys. I always keep my clutch pedal depressed also. I learned that miles ago. As long as evveryone is shaking their butts off and it is not just my truck being weird, it is cool.

Depressing the clutch never seems to work for me. I wonder why? ;)
