Delvac Product Line Changes

anyone have any lance camper experiance?

i want a bypass filter for my truck. id like to hear whats out there and what everyone likes. so let me hear it. also id like the same system to work on my 99 dodge and our 99 powerstroke so that the same filters can be used

Franz. (wefilterit.com) Just put one on in a matter of a couple hours. In 100 miles it turned my 4000 mile black oil back to honey colored. Uses a roll of TP as the filter element.

I purchased the bypaas filter and hardware from amsoil, then purchased a bracket and stainless lines from Tri County Machine. The install took less than 1. 5 hrs in my driveway. It looks and works awsome, very clean and out of the way.

I have the same setup Big Red Express has. Even though filter is over the exhaust I haven't had any problems. The only draw back is you can only use the 90 filter.

Question on the Franz filter

When you change the TP filter, does the oil stay in the filter cannister, or is it a MESSY change?

I'm looking at converting two Cummins, 3 Mercedes and one VW 1. 9TD to by-pass. I intend to run synthetic. I want one bypass filter element for all vehicles.

RW on Drugs

Ralph Woods indicates you need to change oil every 2000 miles.

He is on drugs.

I could be changing oil multiple times per week at that rate.

THAT is why I want to go to ByPass filters, I am constantly changing oil.

I'd like to do less oil, more filter.

Wayne

Actually, Ralph Woods advocates not changing the oil at all. He said to just change the filter element and to top off the oil to capacity. This replenishes the additive package the filter may have pulled from the oil.

The dude has been doing this for 40 years and has an impressive client list. Major corporations in the transportation, manufacturing and oil refining industrys.

I use Amsoil, but if I had to do it again I'd look at another brand. Hate paying $35 for a new filter.

You must be paying retail. This is the best By-pass element of any by-pass element. Why would you want something of less value? I just came form a filter seminar, and the Chairman of the Filter Manufacturers Association was in attendance. He said there is no other filter on the market that is better in terms of filtering. That is quite a statement from one that is close to the market!

You can buy less expensive filters, but they will not be as efficient!

FAQ4:

"What is the capacity of the Motor Guard filters for holding contamination?

Motor Guard exceeds Federal Specification F-F-351a. Up to 6 pounds of contamination can be removed by Motor Guard. The roll of cellulose will filter clean and keep clean 12 qts of lubricating oil if changed every 2,000 miles (55 hours 1 hour = 35 miles). For vehicles with larger oil capacities or if you want to go farther between filter changes multiple units in parallel are used.

Example Cummins Diesel = 12 gallons of oil

12 gal / 3 gal = 4 Motor Guard units

These units may be mounted in any position obtaining one pressure and return source from the engine and connecting units in parallel with "T" fittings. "

FAQ 14:

"How often will I need to change my Motor Guard filter?

The change interval depends on several things. Normally an 8 cylinder will need a filter change every 2,000 miles; a 6 every 3,000 miles and a 4 every 4,000 miles. You can make changes to suit your own use. If you follow the recommendations of some filter makers you will get a higher wear rate so you need to be careful about recommendations. The better the filter and the smaller the filter the more often it must be changed. "

Sorry, I was only quoting the FAQs when I said he was on drugs. :-{}

I am looking at all these filters. And I sure appreciate the different URLs.

To convert my fleet, I am looking at buying a 55 gallon barrel of synthetic, and five bypass filters. So, YES filter price is a relevant issue. Yes, ease of filter change is an issue. Yes, filter kit price is an issue. I looked also at becoming a dealer for one of the vendors, but found the vendor license price not conducive to my need.

Bottom line: I am tired of changing oil. My high mileage diesels do not consume oil, and the engines are already outlasting the body & paint jobs.

I want want one bypass filter. Not multiple PN:

Hey: where did Ralph Woods say change filter (other than 2-4K) and leave oil

Keep the info coming. I, for one am reading and taking the advice in.

What Ralph says there if you read and comprehend is that you change the damn TP, then you add what oil needs to be added because of the TP change, not the entire crankcase oil and filter. 2000 miles for a roll of TP and a partial quart or quart maximum. That may be a downfall for some. The only downfall of the MotorGuard IMHO as it is a bit small, you can run a couple parallel to extend the TP change farther. The TP filters are real hard to beat for filter value and efficiency.

If your that concerned about changing oil, sample it, have it tested and only change it when it is necessary.

Did Read The DAMN FAQ

Read. Understood. 2-4K is too often. Still looking.

DogDiesel,

I thought you were talking about the oil in your Dodge Cummins. It only has a 3 gallon sump. I didn't realize you were speaking of a Cummins in a tugboat or something with a 12 gallon sump. I don't blame you. Yes the M-30 is too small. You need the MotorGuard LF-750, submicronic oil polishing and all that, good for 30,000 miles, increases your sump by 4 gallons and the filter element is 3 rolls of TP and 2 rolls of Paper Towels rolled together.

IF that is still too small, Ralph has a new one using 2 rolls of Scott centerpull paper towels. Submicronic. Good for more than 70,000 miles, I think. I'll check.

When I was looking at bypasses, Ralph Wood indicated in an email that he no longer made the MG-750... he could no longer get them.

There is also the Gulfcoast (papertowels), Oilguards (wound cotton - they also build the Racor), Luberfiner (the LFP9750 is like an oversized Amsoil filter), Spinner II (centrifugal), and others. They are all spec'd for larger engines...

If you read the GCF literature, they indicate 10k filter changes on OTR trucks... and they are quite popular in the marine world.
