What Ralph Wood Says FAQ
Actually, Ralph Woods advocates not changing the oil at all. He said to just change the filter element and to top off the oil to capacity. This replenishes the additive package the filter may have pulled from the oil.
The dude has been doing this for 40 years and has an impressive client list. Major corporations in the transportation, manufacturing and oil refining industrys.
FAQ4:
"What is the capacity of the Motor Guard filters for holding contamination?
Motor Guard exceeds Federal Specification F-F-351a. Up to 6 pounds of contamination can be removed by Motor Guard. The roll of cellulose will filter clean and keep clean 12 qts of lubricating oil if changed every 2,000 miles (55 hours 1 hour = 35 miles). For vehicles with larger oil capacities or if you want to go farther between filter changes multiple units in parallel are used.
Example Cummins Diesel = 12 gallons of oil
12 gal / 3 gal = 4 Motor Guard units
These units may be mounted in any position obtaining one pressure and return source from the engine and connecting units in parallel with "T" fittings. "
FAQ 14:
"How often will I need to change my Motor Guard filter?
The change interval depends on several things. Normally an 8 cylinder will need a filter change every 2,000 miles; a 6 every 3,000 miles and a 4 every 4,000 miles. You can make changes to suit your own use. If you follow the recommendations of some filter makers you will get a higher wear rate so you need to be careful about recommendations. The better the filter and the smaller the filter the more often it must be changed. "
Sorry, I was only quoting the FAQs when I said he was on drugs. :-{}
I am looking at all these filters. And I sure appreciate the different URLs.
To convert my fleet, I am looking at buying a 55 gallon barrel of synthetic, and five bypass filters. So, YES filter price is a relevant issue. Yes, ease of filter change is an issue. Yes, filter kit price is an issue. I looked also at becoming a dealer for one of the vendors, but found the vendor license price not conducive to my need.
Bottom line: I am tired of changing oil. My high mileage diesels do not consume oil, and the engines are already outlasting the body & paint jobs.
I want want one bypass filter. Not multiple PN:
Hey: where did Ralph Woods say change filter (other than 2-4K) and leave oil
Keep the info coming. I, for one am reading and taking the advice in.
