Looking for suggestion on how to keep the Turbo Overboost Condition and Boost in Low Range codes from randomly appearing at will and having to pull over and erase them to wonder when they will appear again.

I have the fooler plug in the factory turbo wire already.

you are lucky you own a smarty. Its one of the only ways to get you out of limp mode. Call your turbo vendor and ask for a fix.

I get this on a weekly basis. I talked to Chuck at new era where I bought my turbo and he told me there was a resistor I believe that could be soldered in. Not willing to cut and solder my factory wiring harness, I chose to just deal with it and clear with the smarty. I guess I don't really understand why a plug in resistor or whatever would work.

I also talked to TST about the issue, Mark himself has the problem on his 06. I suggested they program something into the powermax that would give the ecm a little extra boost reading to keep this away. He too was just pulling over and clearing with smarty.

Is there any way the smarty can prevent this from happening?

what i did before i even got any of these codes, was to take the boost sensor out of the stock turbo and leave it plugged in, and just tie it up out of the way. i have never seen a over or low boost code.

It is not a boost sensor but a solenoid right... ... ... ... ... .

Robert, I believe the low boost code only occurs in 06 and 07 trucks. I usually get the code when travelling at low speeds like when in traffic or in a parking lot. A situation where there are RPMs but no load seems to trigger it.

Edit: I noticed where Kruger is also getting overboost codes. Do you have the smarty software for aftermarket turbo installed?

ITS NOT THE WASEGATE ACTUATOR CAUSING THIS!! Its caused by lower cruising boost #'s via a larger turbo, the ECM thinks theres a boost leak and cuts back power (HINT, its more in the MAP sensor than the WG actuator). My 04. 5 does this ONLY when I am pulling a trailer, sometimes a bunch and sometimes it wont do it.

Doesn't the smarty's aftermarket turbo (and no boost limit) take care of these problems?
I think the Smarty handles overboost conditions caused by excessive fueling (outside factory parameters), but this sounds like an underboost condition due to large turbo that is not making boost when stock turbo would. In older trucks we just call it turbo lag, a condition that could produce smoke. The 06+ trucks consider it an emissions problem, a condition that could produce smoke.

I would think that since it can reprogram boost limits it should be able to handle that on both ends. Maybe we can get Marco & company to chime in... .

Its not limited to 06+ I get the 299 and half power sometimes when I tow, I just clear it with the smarty.

Remember that they arent changing the actual parameters they are only fooling the ECM, I would think that the aftermarket could make the ECM see more boost or a faster ramp up of boost since they can put a limit on how high the voltage from the map sensor is to the ECM to control overboost.

I also think that second gens can do this as well but the 3rd gens and there tight emmissions, larger ECM capacity, and increaced power have an extremely narrow range of what is allowed in terms of boost (and lack of).

My O4. 5 Does It Too , Drives Me Crazy ! I Have To Dry All The Way To Massdiesel And Scott Is Nice Enough To Erace It And Fix My Truck For $ 0. 00 , Its A Pain In The *** , I Really Don't Want To Spend $ 600. 00 For Something Thats Just Going To Clear A Code Out , I Like My Set Up Now And I Am Making Close To 475 Hp And Thats Enough For Me.

Upon removing the fooler plug I purchased with the new turbo and installing the factory plug and wire tying the sensor out of the way I am still seeing the code and maybe more so than before. ????????????????????? Obviously this isnt the fix some say it is.

I am running the smarty aftemarket turbo software on level 3. Like stated above I have tried both the factory plug and the fooler plug with no success.

Is there any update on this problem and a possible solution. I would think that it is something that the Smarty programming could eliminate? I am considering getting rid of the Smarty for another programmer that will not be tripping my truck "CONSTANTLY", pulling over and resetting all the time is very old!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, the smarty is the only thing keeping you on the road without going through 6 or 7 stop/start cycles for it to go away.

I got this code yesterday. Thank goodness I had a Smarty to clear it.

And I know have my stock turbo back on for my towing trips this summer. The "P0299" and the fact that the HTB2 62/14 didn't cool all that well except under WOT made me decide to go backwards for now.

I am having my turbo checked out as I feel the WG is not shutting all the way.

You are pointing fingers in the wrong direction here, call your turbo guru. If you sell the smarty you will be stuck in limp mode and not be able to clear it.

There are other solutions to the P0299 code , do some research
