I saw it tonight! WOW. I thought it was awesome! No, epic! No, stupendous!
Critically, it's not doing so well. But for those of us who remember the original series, this movie is pretty close.
Like the series, the plot makes very little sense. Mostly, it's giant robot combat. As my friend put it, the movie has two modes: comedy and combat. There's almost no love story. There is almost no character development. Many things make no sense at all (why do robots need to blink?).
And all that makes it wonderful. Ignore the plot, ignore the characters, and just watch those awesome robots.
The CGI is amazing. I mean, you'd swear those robots really are there in the scenes. It's almost perfect. I'd say the only think they still need to work on is dirt. What I mean is, after major combat I thought the robots (especially Rachet) look a little too clean and shiny.
And the mechanical sounds! They did such a great job with the audio of giant machinery moving around. I could sit and listen to the sounds of machinery for hours. Made me so glad I was able to leave the theater and get in my diesel truck and listen to it clank around.
And the movie made me want to run out and get a GMC Topkick with a Road Armor bumper.
I want to see it a few more times, but movies are a bit too expensive for me to do that kind of thing. But I can't wait for the opportunity to see it again.
Definitely worth seeing on the big screen. There so much action you absolutely cannot follow it all.
