I am looking at purchasing a built auto in the near future, and have been horrified by some of the threads from 2005 about ATS, namely one case where it took three trannys to get it right, no matter what the circumstances. I live in Florida, so I need a situation where a shop says," you just need a built 48RE? Is that all? We've got a bulletproof unit ready to go right here!" Then They would swap mine out for it and after a few adjustments on road test or two it works exaxctly as it should for 6 or 8 grand! That's a lot of money for a stupid descendant of a torqueflite 727. this is 2007, or am I dreaming? How much power and torque can a new 68rfe handle? I heard they are 3500 bucks new. I want to mostly street drive my truck with an occasional tow of 5,000 lbs, and an occasional trip down the drag strip. I want it to hold up under 4wd launches if I desire, and be an all around unit where I don't have to worry about it again. Dirving around town I'd probably just be developing about 400 horses, but would turn it up on the track. I want lower speed lock-up and unlock, a civilized shift firmness, and a durable unit.
