got my new turbo and i am not thrilled with the lag or the temps

any of you compared the stainless 13 of theirs to the cast iron housings???

thanks, don

ps - it is a 62/65 s300

The 14cm cast housing spools better than the 13cm stainless housing something isnt right with the stainless housing there have been many people with spool up issues on the stainless housing. All that spools like a 12 and flows like a 14 is bull. It might flow better than a 14 but it spools about like an 18 or 21. These are very good turbos but HTT needs to figure out where they screwed up with the stainless housing, and quit claiming such great results. It was an expensive $750 mistake I made getting the 13cm stainless housing.

While I do like mine I have some thoughts on it.

I do porting work so most of my stuff is ported. While attempting to remove the exhaust housing I discovered some brainiac mounted the housing with stainless bolts. This has to be the work of some rookie because anyone that does any kind of mechanical work knows you do not use stainless bolts in stainless components unless you use Blue Goo or equivalent. Failing to do so will result in the parts "galling" and removing the threads or snapping off. And I do not believe Blue goo can indure the heat even if it was used.

I did manage to do some mild porting and it does spool well so all was not in vain.

glad you are happy with it dave

i have 30 miles on mine and it is going back to htt tomorrow

thanks all

don

Maybe you just need to re-learn how to drive with this turbo. Its a different animal.

I have heard ALOT of good reviews on this turbo on several other forums.

You are the first one I have heard that has a complaint.

Have you called HTT to see if there is something wrong with the turbo?

30 miles isnt enough time to garbage talk something IMHO.

Everyone else who has the stainless turbo, say they spool like a 12 and cool like a 14. Im going with the other reviews.

There is always someone unhappy.

Im sure you will get mad that I posted this, but like I said you are the first one to complain about the Stainless housing.

You arent the first one to complain about the stainless housing DTT has had many complaints. I have also seen complaints on 3 other forums including this one including dieselram, diesel truck resource and the cummins forum. You shouldn't relearn how to drive as there claims are bogus. Why spend the extra money for the stainless 13 when the cast 14 spools better and flows close to the same. If a 14 cast spools better, then this housing dosent spool like a 12.

i am not mad at you - i just dont see what you see

looks like 3 of us in this thread that actually have tried the housing:

hdm likes his, after porting it. BUT he "has thoughts on it" (that he didnt elaborate on)

dont think tlg liked his at all - he called it "a $750 mistake"

and then there is me...

i understand it is a different animal and that i will have to re-learn to drive the truck with a s300 series turbo no matter the config

but if there is gonna be that kind of heat i would rather have the performance of a 71mm wheel to go along with it

have you tried the SS housing or are you just going by what you have read?

I have the 62/12 on now I have used the HTT 66/14, 66/12, HTT Pro,64,13,SS, that was worst turbo I have ever used, II SB 66 & SB 62 I always go back to HTT HTB2 it Spools better and runs lower EGTs for low and mid range then all the above

I currently have a Prostreet 66 w/ the 16 SS housing, and it is hard to light, but it was expected. Anytime you go to a bigger charger you are going to have lag, but I bet when it does light, it lights 10 times faster. It would also help if you filled out a signature so we would know what you had done to the truck. Maybe not enough fuel to light it quick. Hope we can help you figure it out, but overall, I love this turbo.

itsa ve truck - pump is maxed, afc is maxed - not removed - as later i will have to tow and that would be a problem, ksb is on a switch, ddp stg III inj right now (5x12). have some pods (4x14) (about 20% larger than the stg3's). am gonna throw those back in there when i get home. last night i drove down to so. county and took the toll rd. it has some good 6 & 7% grades and the truck did well but i was not draggin the trailer (still saw 1250° plus). the ex is a mod'ed 4" dp with nothin behind that yet so that is not the prob. the a/f is k&n in a highly mod'ed air box that gets plenty of cold air so i dont think that is a problem. gonna remove the filter for the trip home just to be sure.

i understand that these ve trucks dont fuel anything like some of your p-pump trucks, but with the pump mods and the pod's it should fuel enough for over 400 hp. maybe i shouldnta said anything until i got the stg III's out of there but the guy i borrowed them from runs a super phat shaft and they fueled enough for his 71 wheel.

ps - 4. 11 gears, 35" bfg's, nv4500, gv overdrive - the 1250° was not cruising, that was when some guy in a 3rd gen wanted to play going up a grade. cruising 1800 in 5th over (80 mph) egts are around 900. 2150 rpm, 5th over, 7% grade, half throttle - it went to almost 1300°. but we were haulin the mail...
