rlyons and Bill, sorry to see you guys go! I'm sure we'll meet up someplace, the 'net ain't that big. ;) Safe cruizing! :-laf

Believe it or not I agree with Daniel :D on this one.

The knowledge gained here is worth more than $2. 92 per month.

I agree the magazine doesn't do much for me but oh well, maybe some day I'll buy a newer one and maybe I'll remember something from one of the articles.

We'll miss youse guys but we'll also welcome you back when you can spare the $35;)

Bomb on!

Jay

just the travel companion is worth hundreds of times more than the $35 the first time you get stranded. i wonder if other sites do that for you? i understand times are hard and think if money needs to be saved thats cool, but i could save $35 a year by driving slower or cutting out fast food, either one will go before i stop subscribing to this site.

but the information and not being treated like a 4yr old are!

See post # 14, answers that question.

rlyons, Bill, sorry to see you leave as well. The other site is as good as this one too for information. Personally, here on the TDR, I find it hard to leave. I have made some friends on here and it is kinda like a family you dont have to tell to leave... :-laf

I have been a member since back in the mid 90's of the TDR and although there are some on here that act like they know it all, its easy to just skip over them too.

Wish you both the best and will see you on the other site.

some can afford it, some can't...

back in the day I NEEDED the information but could barely afford it... now I barely need any information but I can readily afford it.

I'm on other forums more often than I'm on TDR, but I still check every day. Nice to try to help others trouble shoot problems and get some brain-storming ideas when I'm in a bind.

but especially nice not to be treated like a 4yr old child by the owners/moderators.

with the money I saved off of the info off of this site (the ORIGINAL) I'll be ahead of the game at $35/yr for decades. I'm happy to pay ;)

Thanks guys, I still have a little time so maybe I will stay, who knows? Just cutting back a little. It's not that I can't afford it but I just have too many subscriptions and feel like I am supporting everyone. Some I am dropping due to their cutbacks to save money and in the process they are cutting services to the members. #@$%! The magizine here is not much good to us 1st geners but the site is still pretty active. I am in the process of evaluating all my spending right now so I am not concrete on any yet. Maybe this one will be worth keeping. ;) I do have to say that the first gen forum here is getting a little slow compared to the other site.

Sorry to see you guys go, but, ya gotta do what needs done.

Hope you decide to stay around and participate as each of you is a valuable resource.

Good luck and see ya here or on the net. :)

Now you're thinking!!;) Or do what I did, buy a 3 rd gen truck so you have more to follow!!:-laf

The TDR site has saved me untold dollars by keeping me out of the ********$hips every since I bought my truck back in '03.

Robin and the rest of the Genos gang are just topnotch folks.

I enjoy the forum because it stays "adult" and mature here with a very few minor exceptions that always get ironed out.

The resources available to me for research can't be beat. I have looked at the other forums, but this is the one I keep coming back to. That $2. 92 a month don't hold a candle against that $5. 92 hamburger I ate for lunch.

See post # 14, answers that question.

lol, I missed that!!! I don't even pay attention to people like that. My point was had he posted something like this on DTR, the thread would have been locked and he would have gotten a temporary ban or at least a warning.

I'll keep my subscription here, but man, if you're going to go elsewhere, PLEASE don't run off to DTR, at least go to Comp!!!

see ya there ;)

Tough decisions, I know. Thanks for your posts and the info gleaned. I have wondered this occasionally when I read a magazine full of 3rd gen stuff, but the depth of the archives here has saved me tons! Including Bill's getrag pics and comments on my current rebuild. Searching these archives just saved me big $$. See you over there too.

Huh???

Well like I said it is not due to any problems here, even though sometimes you get people like this that just have to say negative things, I have learned over the years to ignore them and help everyone I can. I don't know or care how many come or go personally and I am sure you don't either. My decision is not based on the quality of the site as it is great and a very good source of information, I just need to cut some costs overall and this is jut one of many I have to let go. If I change my mind I may come back we will just have to see. Thanks TDR Admin for all you do for us.

You're very right I must admit...

I did not want everyone to see my soft side when I heard the news that you were Departing the Family.

If I can set up a Kitty fund to help raise some money so that you can hang around here for another calendar year, I will do that for you...

Or I can trim a few extra's such as my Hustler subscription and Maxim, maybe not buy that extra round when Im out with the boys, on boys night out???

Or wait for the weekend sale @ the local Super Market to buy Beer instead of the drive in Liquor that may be over-priced by a few pennies more...

Also will cut Coupons and eat Top Ramen instead of Veal and Kobe Beef...

Perhaps Robin can set up some sort of "grace" period for those long time members in need.

Maybe 3 months extension, no magazine or something like that to help let some guys get back on their feet.

I'd be for that as long as it wasn't abused.

Wll I thank jest one of the info I got off of here saved me about 1000. 00 that has me well a head whit it cost me for my TDR books. So I am well ahead off the cost.

The other responses say it all. It is after all a personal decision. It is a good post as it has brought out a considerable comment that reflects much of my own. I never open the magazine. I don't comb the classifieds. I just read the first gen forum.

Because TDR is mostly the only reason I have a net connection and land line, I considered letting my subscription, land line and ISP expire but didn't yet. Yes there are other places. Indeed Robin will hardly know anyone is or isn't gone. With enrollment up around 30k members, the increase somewhat outnumbers the decrease.

I still tell people I meet about TDR. I am sure that for the newbies, this is THE place to learn about the 1st gen. I don't respond to all the newbie questions as I once did. The TDR group is certainly 'my kind of folks'.

I have commented to the office folks that I sure would like to see a net only subscription. The answer then was 'we are a magazine'. OK, but you are a heck of a lot more than a magazine. And it that heck of a lot more that I keep sending the subscription price for. And if finances require that I drop out for a time, I will still be checking in on the first gen forum under the guest status.

Who knows, maybe the magazine will one day be priceless and I can get all my money back.

Still as I said, just putting in my two cents. And I want to follow this thread to the end.

James

Ok,Ok, you guys talked me into it. I renewed today so I will be around a while longer to bother everyone. ;) I'll cut out some big macs or something. :)

Glad to hear your going to stick around. I'd like to reemphasize what Robin said above - we would LOVE to have more 1st gen material for the magazine! The fact is that right now the material we receive is for the newer trucks. PLEASE submit material for publication and I'm sure that Robert will include everything that's usable! I think the 1st gens (and the 2nd gens now) are getting into a stage of life where we are going to see more maintenance issues than upgrades. I think that our trucks (and members) will have 3 stages as they relate to the magazine. The 1st is when your truck is new and your adding stuff to it left and right getting it the way you want it. Then there's the middle years where your truck is how you want it, your not doing that much to it other than basic maintenance, and your just driving the wheels off it (this is where my '98 is right now). Then there's the later years when your having to deal with age & mileage related issues (which is where you guys are getting). I'd like to see more stuff submitted dealing with those long term ownership issues and repairs such as body rust repairs, aged rubber components, electrical, etc.

We do have a project in the works that will help to get more material out of the website and into the magazine and create a more symbiotic relationship between the two. A web only subscription is also being analyzed.

Thanks for everyone's continued support of the TDR - we appreciate it!
