I think another side effect of this thread is that it illustrates the importance of feedback to the TDR staff so that they can look at what we as members are needing/wanting. I agree with Steve St. Laurent's comments on the three stages relating to the magazine.

Every so often, one of my other subscribed magazines prints a survey form in the mag asking for feedback from the readers. They sometimes entice responses via a prize giveaway. Being that the focus of that mag is a vehicle type that isn't being built anymore, it is important to them to come up with new ways to maintain their readership.

Obviously this isn't as critical for TDR given that our trucks are being produced in many variations. Yet, a reader input survey would definitely give members the ability to provide the TDR Staff with more ideas for content in the magazine.

YAY...

You're not leaving, I'm joyous that you are gonna stay with our happy Family and also I will not have to give up my extras of such that I have mentioned earlier...

See you around...

We do have a project in the works that will help to get more material out of the website and into the magazine and create a more symbiotic relationship between the two. A web only subscription is also being analyzed.

Thanks for everyone's continued support of the TDR - we appreciate it!

That's just it, I don't think the magazine should really have anything to do with the website. When I look in the first gen section of the magazine, most often it is made up of excerpts from this forum I've already read. Its not that I'm complaining about the cost of the membership, I just think it would be nice if you could get a membership at a reduced rate that was internet and travel companion only. Since 2000 I've been a member more often than not, letting it expire a couple of times when I didn't own a Cummins, but inevitably I get sucked right back in.

Since the Admin folks are reading this thread... . I was in the same frame of mind when my renewal came due this year. I get kind of depressed when the magazine comes because it is all about the new stuff. You early 2nd Genners will experience this before long too.

It's not so much that entire articles aren't written about 1st Gen stuff, we get pretty much what we need right here. Like James, this is the only part of TDR that I come to. But it really irritates me when a new product is being evaluated and even though some of us might know that it can be "made" to fit our trucks, no mention is made in the write up.

I am basically a grumpy old &*@&@!, but I know it and enjoy it. I have a 14 year old truck and no plans to ever get a newer one. I stayed here because there are a lot of folks here that are just like me... . and you know who you are!! :-laf:-laf:-laf

A few years back I bought a Motorhome with a 5. 9 first gen(1989). The thing would hardly move, a few weeks after I started posting I had most of the answers and now it runs fine. Priceless.
More first gen stuff in the Magazine would be a god thing. The VE pump is always a mystry to me. Maybe the powers that be can trade subscription credits for articles from the first gen folks that know what they are talking about.
The oil tests and the recent additve review was really valuable.
I kind of think of it a magazine with a free website. Just my 2cents.

I 2nd that notion that other unnamed message boards treat the posters like they are 4 year olds. :/

I was debating not renewing as well because I only recieved one magazine all year in my last year of membership. Now I'll just pay to stay on this board.

pepecat - you should email Robin at rpatton@ix.netcom.com about your magazines. Any time you don't receive a magazine you should contact her - somethings wrong for 3 of your mags to disappear. They will send out new ones asap when they know you haven't received one but in your case with 3 gone there must be something wrong with your address in the system or something (or maybe your postman bought a CTD ;) )

Heartfelt Thanks

This thread has just made my day. Been busy, so I couldn't check in last night. Thank you to everyone here who has provided such positive support. I can't even dream of having a better job or a better place to hang out.

One time I did receive one magazine, and behind the sheet with my address, there was one similar to mine but with a different address, obviuosly a glitch in the packing. Being the address was local I attempted to inform the person to whom it was addressd. He had moved some time ago and the person now living at that address had no knowledge of him. Not sure if I mailed it to Robin, however, thought had he informed TDR of change of address the matter would be resolved. (ps, at times, one MUST speak up) As of yet, with all of Robin's many unchallenged skills, probably Mind Reading is the lowest achievement to date. (working on it!)

I just want to let you all know that a resource like this is awesome, I'm a 2nd gener but you 1st gen are the pioneers. Come 15 to 20 years from now people will coming here to find out about restoring 1st gen trucks as classics, look at the Mustangs, VW bugs and even my 88 Mitsu Montero that I find has a great wealth of info over on 4x4wire.com.
Lets not forget our roots. Now it's time for me to renew my subscription.

Take care all.

Robin, the thanks goes to you and the staff for the fine job you are doing.

Goodness, 4 pages of replies! Did this thread get reposted in another forum, all these 2nd and 3rd genners?? I would be up for a website only membership as I don't care for the magazine anymore.

My thoughts are this site has COST me tens of thousands of dollars. I bought a 94 3/4 ton diesel pickup because I always thought they were cool. I joined this site, got hooked up with the Ct Coffee Nites folks, and I was all done. Thanks for COSTing me literally (no joke) tens of thousands of bucks. It was worth every penny. I've made lots of great friends and have 2 awesome trucks now. :-laf

I for one would love it if someone documented a VE rebuild complete with pictures. And submitted it for the TDR mag. Now that i've disassembled one, I think most people could too if they had a little help(pictures) like I did. They are not that complicated that we need bosch certifed people to do it for us. Oo.

We have kinda hijacked this thread by telling TDR staff what we 1st Gen's would like in upcomming TDR magazines, so I will add to it.

A recent thread entitled "dying Getag 400 mi from home" by Moab4X4 (Ken) was very interesting and helpful. If possible I would like to see a reprint of that information with pictures in a future TDR magazine. If possible it would be nice for TDR to expand on the info given by Ken with even more detailed instructions on how to rebuild a Getrag five speed transmission, and where to purchase parts.

Hope this is in the relm of TDR possibilties.

Thanks TDR for being there for us 1st. Gen. CTD's. Much appreciated !.

Bob:)

I know that I've saved and continue to save money on here... I'm tryin to get every gen truck, so all the tdr books IMO are good "for me"...
