Helped a friend put one in last Thursday. 5 layer MLS. He can push 65 lbs boost pretty easily. He's racing in the local season ending drags this weekend. Should be interesting to see how it holds up.

I'll post results after the races.

... under full boost (2bar) in my small block Ford. ... the guy who bought the block rebuilt it and used the same head gasket set in a turbo setup running 30lbs of boost and didn't blow them either

FWIW, 2 bar is 30lbs of boost. :)

Jay, keep me updated. I havent been driving my truck because I want to make sure this MLS is good!!!

I haven't heard all the details of how it went for my friend out at the track this weekend. I'm sure I will tomorrow. I know racing was limited due to rainy weather. However, I do know he made a couple of runs and all has held together as of yesterday (Sat. ) morning.

Some specs: he's running a '98 auto short bed quad cab 4X4 with the 180 pump. He has home built twins consisting of an 35/40 hybrid and an HT60. He's running F1 injectors and a modified plate that is essentially a 100 plate and a modified AFC. Just prior to his stock head gasket (with APR studs torqued to 122 lbs) springing a coolant leak back between #5 and #6 he had his pump bench tuned and turned up to push 418 cc of fuel per 1000 strokes on the stand. Prior to the pump work he could hit 65 lbs pretty easy and his best quarter mile time was about 13. 29 at about 101 mph.

After the gasket let go he found his head was cracked so he opted for a aftermarket (Chinese?) head with 60 lb springs and the Cometic MLS gasket. Studs are torqued to 125 lbs. I think he did 2, maybe 3 retorques before racing => Head on by Friday noon the 12th, easy driving and retorque on Sat. Out of town Sun through Wed. the 17th. Easy run at the track on Thursday with a retorque that evening. Then wide open on Friday the 19th.

Friday evening he called and said he broke out of his dial in time of 13. 05 by running about a 12. 8 (plus or minus) at about 105. Easily hitting 65 lbs of boost still. Couldn't tell me any temp numbers (too much going on!) but in general they are down (could hit 1500+ easy at 65 lbs on test runs on old gasket).

I'll post more info in a day or so after hearing back from him.

Contact "JacktheBear3" on this site or in the competitiondiesel.com site. His name is Wally. He apparently is a dealer and can supply them at a great price.
