What is the future of Smarty?

Ya know. If I was a lawyer with essentially free labor. I'd file a lawsuit just for giggles. Did you ask them to reverse the update?

Funny tho. When I bought my truck new. . it had the "white smoke on cold start" issue in the cold months. I had to beg and plea with them to give their dang ECU and update and sign something a few times for them just to do 5 minutes worth of software updates that had a TSB as well. now they do it cuz they wanna fark with ya.

I just got off the phone with Bob and was asking about updating the smarty on my 2004 with the speed limiter option? I had purchased one of the earlier smarty versions that smokes really good, has a touchy throttle, great bottom and mid range fueling, and want to leave the smarty as is, just wanted the speed limiter update. Bob, says there is no way to add the speed limiter without updating the rest of the smarty software! The updates that are being released are NOT backwards compatiable! He did say to wait a month or two when Marco gets back to Italy, first part of November.

Marco will be working on rev limiter, speed limiter, better fuel mileage gains and the ability to adjust desired smoke level, as I understand it.

It will be similar to the original version of smarty, but with alot more benifits... ... . I can't wait... ... ... .....

Thanks Bob and Marco your customer concern and support are the best!!!!!!!!!!!

P. S. If I gotta update the entire software of my smarty might as well get the cruise control issue resolved too!

P. S. S. Bob said to keep an eye on TDR that as these new releases are availbale he will keep us informed of changes on TDR!!!!!

A smarty update for 2nd gen?? I'll believe it when I see it. I'm about ready to p-pump my truck. Tired of waiting on smarty.

Well Marco should be in the US now and running trucks on the Dyno with Bob... ... so what is new.

I wish someone would just come out and tell us second gen guys if we are going to get an update or not. Specifically an update that will help out the guys with transmission shift issues.

Bob?

I don't understand why the download page is so readily available if we aren't supposed to use it. i'm reading on "other" forums and people are downloading the files like crazy and I'm just thinking "what do I do?""

I'm all for newer technology and upgrades for us "older" generation guys, however I feel we are a bit left in the dark on this one.

Well, (no offense intended!) I suppose a fella can be an electronics genius, and be overflowing with honesty and integrity (AND good intentions!) - and yet STILL not be the sharpest on product/service presentation, representation and wisdom in choosing priorities across the full front of past, present and future customers/users...

Sometimes guys become so focused on where they're GOING, they forget where they started, and got to where they ARE... ;)

I have no doubt it'll all work out, unfortunately, many guys will have traded their trucks and sold their Smarty before it happens, and will not benefit from the later mods when they finally DO finally arrive - and THAT'S a shame!

Bob and Marco are at SEMA... . I'd imagine updates will appear after this week. Last week, they were at Floor-It Diesel in Lawrence Kansas doing dyno testing for CR software and presumably to work out the rev limiter on VP trucks... I just missed them by about a day.

Bob, When will I see a JR? I'll be at ther Dyno Day at the Powershop in Enamclaw, WA in the morning. 2k4 with mild upgrades... BD trans upgrades TC and VB plus better cold air in and bigger hot air out pipe. Would love to see what she'd do with a JR!! PJ

smarty

Like they always say in the construction world, when it comes to up dates, It's nothing but a pipe dream!!!! Why would Marco want to up date when he already has our money?

I like that. I seriously don't expect to see updates for 2nd gen trucks either. And you're rite, why bother... he already got the money.

If they don't want to spend the time/effort to do any more 2nd gen R&D, they should at least provide a way to let someone attempt to modify the software(s) themselves, and download the changes into the smarty. I looked into doing this, but the files are encrypted or compressed in such a way that I couldn't make heads or tails of them. If I could have done this, I would have bought a smarty myself. Instead, I am forced to reduplicate all of Marco's efforts myself, and figure out how to reflash my own truck.

Enough of my own ranting, I have circuit boards to work on...

Wow, thought I was the only one. Tho I'm not knowledgeable enough to re-program stuff, I'm sure i'd do nothing but blow stuff up.

However, the idea is sound that releasing the software and a method to modify our selves, but force things to be tired to the Smarty downloader (so he has a method to make money) Kinda like the EFI-Live.....

This way there are more people working on tunes for more truck combinations, essentially doing FREE work. This all stems from the idea that people would post their tunes to a website.

It's not difficult to make an EFI-Live style setup for the cummins. It's ready there (Smarty, PPE, bully dog, super chips). The issue is getting these companies to release some sort of interface so that we can modify our out programs!. Heck, charge $200-500 for the software interface. :)
