Intake Manifold Tests Complete

What is the future of Smarty?

Bob mentioned in a post somewhere that the 4K software is a competition only software and will possibly be VIN specific in it's distribution. Can't blame them

doesnt hurt my feeling any.

With 4k rpm at any amount of time the sig will need to be updated to include balanced crank/ rods, main and rod studs, block stiffener plate, better valve springs, fluid damper

What else am i going to do with my money (im single);)

Isn't the reciprocating assembling of the 5. 9 supposedly balanced to 4500 rpm or so? I thought with the fluid balancer, cam and valve springs, that 4000 rpm shouldn't be a problem...

Not really. If I were them, I'd want my butt covered too. Give it to anyone and they're are guaranteed lawsuits. As it was mentioned above... there's a few things needed to run to 4K without blowing up :-laf

No, 110% disagree.

In that case, remove all above stock torque managment systems cuz transmissions will break (and have!) But for some reason you think people won't realize that 4000rpm's may break a stock longblock vs 500hp breaking a stock transmission? My stock clutch was slipping with the hot program. Guess what, I can't sue Edge. Sorry I should of knew better to have a correct clutch. And besides that, I did sign a waver. This waver ensured that I was in fact knowledgeable about any extra "out of spec" power and what it could do.

I agree, a signature of some sort. Maybe even a "y" or "n" warning on the smarty it self as well, so that users "sharing" a smarty get the message. This is sufficient of a "warning" any such user will ever need. If they break it, they can sue, but will lose.

Heck, I cah sue you for disagreeing with me! Doesn't make sense, but I bet I could get your butt in court! So lets not bring up lawsuits.

Hmm, reminds me of the quote I said today (that I may or may not of copied from some other person in the world, just make since in the conversation I was having)

"Ignorance is no excuse for stupidity. "

I say, release any such programs. If the program is self is found to be "stable" software and it breaks something cuz of a malfunction in the software, then I suppose Macro and company have some fault. Don't be surprised if they send you a new ECM if it gets hosed (it's happened)

If you have a blown turbo, head gasket, valve imprints on pistons cuz you didn't have the correct turbo, studs, springs. your problem dummy.

If you have beta software. You have no rights to anything. you are a test dummy. Deal with it.

It's very simple really. I'm not here to instruct the Smarty guys of how to do things. But as a very logic suggestion "DON'T BOTHER WASTING TIME ON VIN LOCKING" this software.

I'd like features like, locking my smarty to my stock software and having the speedometer corrections in the ABS computer first.

I like the Smarty software and Smaryy culture, if you can call it that. . This programmer has a rather unique following. It's to bad it's not taken advantage of as much as it could.

I think it has the potential to be a efi live type deal if we were given the ability to choose our programs or parameters, but it seems that they want to stay away from that. They are mainly focusing on the new trucks that come out... that is fine but I also think that for the 5. 9's (both VP and CR) there are a lot of things that can still be done but aren't. Maybe its just me. For one enable stock sw to adjust for tire size.....

They dont seem to care about that, or even telling us anything. Quite disappointing. .

I have little doubt that these Smarty threads are being closely watched - at least by Bob - so how about it guys aren't we 2nd genners due for at LEAST an info update as to what happened during Marcos visit, and at least SOME clue as to what programming changes are in the works?

The "mushroom treatment" is wearing thin! ;)

Dumb Smarty question.

No boost fooler (tst box unplugged). Just the smarty on 9 with what appears to be mild Tq program. Stock turbo and injector software.

Finally got my mechanical boost gauge installed. I see no more then 30psi. I'm assuming that the smarty is using stock boost limits of 28-30-ish?

This would seem to be the EASIEST CHANGE for Marco to make because it doesn't involve any new fueling--just program the Smarty to stay VIN locked so the user can use ANOTHER FUELING BOX to control the engine and keep the Smarty for tire/speedo changes. Seems like this program change would be a logical thing to do (many have asked for it) and it would keep people from selling their Smartys.

However, there are MUCH CHEAPER ways to correct the odometer if that is all the Smarty will be used for. ;)

We all need to go 250 mph and hit 4000 rpm's doing it... .....

Gary your 100% right

Maybe we have to wait till the next time Marco visits, of course thats pure speculation, but its about all we can go with. I stopped reading this thread and figured 18 pages and a couple months later maybe we would have some news for the VPer's.

This smarty issue isnt driving the decision but with the encouragement of the diesel junkies in our group..... and with no offense to Scheids and their pump and Blue Chip and their box... . the P-Pump is going on... ..... the rest of the Smarty world can wait it out.

Good luck to you all... ... ...

Too bad the Smarty is so small... ... . that Discount Tire commercial comes to mind... ... ... if ever your dissatisfied... please feel free to return..... as it bounces off Bobs front window and lands in the bushes... ... . just doesnt have the same ring to it.....

I intend to stack with the TST box. I want my RPM's! :) Just while I'm learning the ins and outs of the TST box I'd like to have stock programming on the truck for a little while. .

Or heck. Why even vin lock an ABS change. You actually think someone will spend $600 for a tire correction tool when the dealer will only charge $100? your just upsetting the real Smarty owners that are fooling around with programming changes if anything with that configuration.

Gary would you mind hookin on to your 5er and take a ride to wagners shop

and post an update for us :)

FACT IS, I'm close enough to Bob that it's entirely possible to get up his way for a meeting at some point - there are group events up in the Portland area I'm sure we will both attend at some point in time - and I vastly prefer that meeting be a friendly one. ;)

Long past discussions related to the original CaTCHER, and the later Smarty seem to have occasionally placed us in an unfortunate adversary situation, as I have commented upon my own opinions of what Marco has produced over the years, and questions surrounding it - much as we're doing here.

Yeah, I sincerely feel our comments and opinions as customers are well justified and based upon fact - but the largest portion of our comments, criticisms and concerns are NOT of Bob Wagner's doing, or his direct responsibility - he has a fine line to walk between properly representing Marco, and to also provide conscientious, professional service to his customers and friends - and I consider myself BOTH!

And I want, and PLAN to keep it that way! ;):D

If anything, at this point, my largest criticism and disappointment is that Marco has placed Bob in a position between himself and his customers that continues to make Bob the most visible and accessible target of criticism from those unhappy with the current situation - Bob has been every bit a gentleman and professional in his treatment of those who directly seek his help - Marco owes Bob a great deal as Bob has gone well beyond the "second mile" in helping establish Marco's stuff, and then provide the after-the-sale customer support it would be impossible for Marco to provide from Italy.

I'm sure Bob will never complain as to the unpleasant position he's been placed in - and I feel Marco owes him a great deal of gratitude, as well as a sincere apology for where his inaction has placed him!
