Water Pump Replacement

I considered replacing my injectors recently because of intermittent rough idle and fuel knock when accelerating. My truck has 220k on it and has run no fuel additives or injector cleaners until a week ago.

I decided not to replace injectors after having a skilled (level 4) Dodge dealership tech perform injector kill test and performance testing.

However, and here's the point of my post: I found that I can buy a set of six new (on edit, new "reman" which are the same as offered by Cummins) injectors from MOPAR4LESS for considerably less than Cummins or other vendors. I buy parts from a young woman there named "K" Washburn. She answers phone calls or promptly replies to voice mail and also responds quickly to e-mails. She has been 100% accurate in parts she has sent me and I have complete trust and confidence in her. I even asked her to keep my credit card on file and I can leave a message after hours or send an e-mail and ask her to overnight a part. It arrives the next day if I call the prior afternoon.

I won't post the price she quoted me here but if you PM me or simply call her at 8:00 a. m. Mountain Standard Time you can get the price. If you call her tell her I sent you. I might be getting a tiny price advantage because I've bought lots of parts from her. I am no big parts buyer so don't have any market clout other than a friendly relationship established by buying from her.

Steve,

As for no shops you trust... . I would trust Mid-Atlantic Diesel Performance with my truck anyday. Here is a link to there site: Home

Doug

Just FYI, I am waiting on Mid Atlantic to call... I'm going to see how much towing this POS to MD will cost using AAA.

Steve,

I understand getting the truck towed... . But I had many customers who's dodge dealer was willing to ship and install the F1 injectors. Also the $250 rebuild price is certainly not the norm. The most I ever saw was $125 per injector. You also have to remember F1 only charges for injectors that need repair. If you have 1 bad injector your total cost would be around $1200.

Thank you,

I will give them a call later today.

Steve

same goes for industrial injection. they turned my personal injectors around over night. tested them and replacing the one bad injector and installing new nozzles and back at my door the following morning.

Steve,

If you have the AAA+ membership towing is free for the first 100!

Yep, but finding a tow truck now won't be happening...

We've gotten 0. 5" of sleet in about 1/2 an hour... I must say though, I enjoy taking the wife's mustang out and powering down the street broadside... :-laf

However, I'm still waiting on a call from Mid Atlantic...

I just got off the phone with AAA, first 100 is free, but its $3/mile after that... that would make another $120 on the bill!!! And if Mid Atlantic would call me back... I'd get the ball rolling.

Steved, theres a place out here in the northwest that sell injectors thats very highly thought of. Check them out dynomitediesel.com.

From what I understand on 3rd gens losing one injector in 142000 miles isn't that bad.

Hope you find what you need, Dale

Injectors

Steved, here is a shop you might want to call. East Coast Diesel 717-861-7525. They are located in Lebanon, Pa close to I-78 & 81. I've gotten some parts from them before and they seem to know what they are doing and have treated me well.

OK, got a call back from Mid Atlantic... so the truck is heading there. I will be setting up a towing service for tomorrow, give this storm time to pass.

All is well...

Will be Don M Flux 1s...

Glad to hear you got something figured out. I was also going to recommend DDP's injectors, but being you needed a shop on the East side to install it probably wouldn't of worked out. I hope the storm clears so your truck can get all fixed up.

This whole 3rd gen injector thing is wierd. You hear of people having issues and then there are the trucks out there with 200K plus on them without issues. I'll keep my fingers crossed on mine.

Glad you went with Don M's injectors. That way if you ever have a problem again with them again, he can fix them. I was also gonna suggest performance diesel warehouse which is pretty close to you and they carry formula injectors too. Do you have any conclusions since your last oil sample, since it showed a hint of fuel.

I'm sure this injector was probably the one causing the extra black smoke, but that UOA with the 0. 5% fuel was most likely from that entire UOA being done on some oil with pretty hard towing miles. All the others were under 0. 5% (which I believe is the lab's threshold value).

There was no indication this injector was going... until it started snapping and carrying on, the truck drove and acted like it has for the last 50k.

What infuriates me is the fact I took every precaution to prevent this very thing... got a FASS with 1 micron filtration since that's a known problem, ran additive to keep things cleaned and lubed because that's a problem, never BOMB'd because that doesn't help thing. And then to lose an injector at 142k... if it would have happened in NM, I would have shot it and buried it (lots of places to hide a body!).

Injectors are not that hard to change out. If you had a warm garage and a weekend you should be able to do it. Takes a little longer than the pre 2003 trucks but still not that bad. Oh on one of our trucks we lost 2 injectors in 65,000 miles.

Steve have you consulted your Travel Companion? Although you're not out on the road I don't think it would hurt to check if anyone would be willing to lend the space and/or help to swap injectors, especially if it means saving a big towing & shop bill.

Taking a quick look there's a number listed in your area: Kutztown, Myerstown, Elverson, New Holland & Allentown. Can PM you the numbers . . .

Vaughn

I've already set up to have the truck towed to Mid Atlantic...

The hard part was the place to work on it... I would have done the work, but lack a garage to do so (that's next on the list)...

I considered looking through the Companion, but figured this close to the holidays, the last thing anyone else wants is a very unexpected surprise.

Wellllll...

Truck is FINALLY on its way... fought with AAA about getting it towed. Seems they thought they had already towed it to the dealership (umm, dumb***** look at your records; I drove it here). I had to have the service manager tell them I didn't have it there for service and that it was ok to tow... $%#$*&% tard.

Tow truck driver was a bull****ter... claimed that these injectors aren't rebuildable... ohh, really? His "buddy" could get me new Bosch injectors for $395/each, and they are better than the Cummins injectors (umm, Cummins injectors are Bosch??) Then told me how his 6. 0 F550 was a good one... anything built after 05 doesn't have any problems with injectors or head gaskets?? (riiiight!) Told me his buddy has been building injectors for 25 years and that I was lucky to have gotten 40k, let alone 140k out of these... and he told me that reman'd injectors will last 40k at best. And then proceeded to tell me the 600CTD has been built since 03, I told him mine was one of the first ones (I could have gotten either a 250HP, 305HP, or the 325HP when I was looking) in 04. 5, and he told me I didn't know what I was talking about... ohh, really??

So anyway, it is on its way to Mid Atlantic... hopefully it doesn't blow the F550 up on the way... it was squatted pretty bad with my 5500 pound truck (yes, he told me my truck only weighed 5500 pounds, even with a diesel).

I did check both the oil and the fuel/water separator today, the fuel is clear and the oil is fuel-less... both good signs.

And just to make sure I say it... THANKS to all that contributed to this thread and through PMs. If it wasn't for TDR members, I would not have really known where to take this thing... or even what injectors to buy...

Hopefully I'll have a running driving truck sometime next week... which, in today's world, is nothing short of a small feat...

And lmills, before you ask, that's a 1959 Gravely walkbehind and 1953 Dodge M37 T-245 engine and trans sitting in the bed of the truck... I was collecting stuff right before this happened!

Again, Thanks for all the input!
