no, there is not an HX35 that will surive heavy towing and lots of fuel. the 12cm housing is WAY too small

I'd get a 62mm S300 hybrid for your combo. That lift and those big tires are going to hurt heavy towing EGT's though

Send me your address then forest I will get you a check on the way

The last S300g we bought was 760$ plus shipping. Just made a few calls to places on the web, and got one. The place we got it from was actually a guy that sells GMC Syclone/Typhoon parts and happens to be a schwitzer dealer as well...

Just call around, they can be had for good deals!!

Well $760 for a complete S300 isn't much more than what Piers wants for just a 35 compressor wheel and housing. Since the S300 has a smaller compressor wheel, i assume there would be no delay in spoolup compared to a stock HX35, unless the turbine housing being larger would slow it down. How does spoolup compare between the S300 and HX35?

How much abuse can an S300 take? I know a mechanic who's daily driver has an S400 and he's pretty happy with it but would like something different, dynos mid 400s. I think i was just reading a magazine in which they installed one and hp gain was very low.

What i really want to know is how long could i get away with just an S300 until i add my HT3B? With lots of fuel like i'm running, how much power might it make, how much boost, and how far will it bring my EGTs down from the mid 1,600 range they now reach? Could it safely handle 500 hp as a single? Do they come wastegated? Do i want one off the shelf or one that has been tweaked and which brand would be best for my setup?

My truck doesn't have a lift, just moved the front axle forward during the coil conversion to clear 35" x 13" tires, but the beast weighs just a few hundred pounds shy of 10,000 lbs empty. High temps during the day have only been getting into the 20s for the past couple weeks. My turbo is noticeably more responsive in this frigid air but is not making much over 30 psi boost. I plan to attend a dyno event this Saturday to see what it puts down, i'm expecting around 350 hp. Hope i don't destroy it while seeing what it can do!

I toldja :)

the S300G is a factory Schwitzer turbo... not some exotic hybrid. When they first were introduced, my local turbo shop said their cost on them was around $700

Never confirmed a good price on an S300G but had to do something before i move this coming weekend as my tired WH1C is coughing and surging while just cruising. Finally gave in and ordered an HTB2 62/12 directly from Anthony at High Tech Turbo. About $1,800 and will spend at least a couple hundred more for Laser Bob to help me fit it in.

I've read nothing but great things about HTT turbos and hope to be extremely pleased with it. I was planning on getting their HTBG but Anthony said with a truck like mine (the wildest application he could recall) that sees hard core off road punishment, the base S300 that the HTBG is built on would not be strong enough. He said their HTB2 turbos are built on a stronger frame than a stock S300. He recommended it for its strength and upgrade ability, claiming the HTBG is not as easy to upgrade and would not have the same strength.

I told him that i was looking for a small turbo to light compounds and he said that they have had great success using the 62/12 as a top charger. He said that the S400 is the hot ticket for big lower turbos right now, but the HT3B 26 that i already have should work OK also.

He claimed that i will not lose any spoolup, that at worst, it will feel like it lights just the same as stock but be comfortable making 40-50 psi boost. I'm hoping that with as much fuel as i have, to put down over 500 hp on a dyno. Really hoping to be able to break the never yet attained 16 mpg mark as well.

Yeah, that seems tremendously steep to me for a 62/12. especially if it has the 65mm turbine... and I assume it does, do they even sell the 71 with a 12?

You can't get a 71 with a 12. Closest you can come is a 71 in the 13cmSS housings. $1800 for a 62/12 is crazy. I could get you quite a bit for the $1800.

I bought directly from HTT. That price includes their HX40 style downpipe for which they charge something like $180. Shipping was supposedly going to be about $40. He wasn't sure about shipping but at that cost the total came to about $1,770 something.

He said a dealer could have saved me $100, maybe $200 dollars but that i wouldn't have been able to get it shipped as quickly. I'm moving this weekend so i need it ASAP.

I was shocked that it was this expensive. I was thinking i'd be getting an S300G with the downpipe for about $900 and was having a hard enough time swallowing that. Especially since i just put new tires on this truck. Sure hope i like this turbo!

How close do you guys think i'll be to 500 hp/1,000 tq? DDPIIIs, 913 pump, 100 plate AFC & Star Wheel full forward, 17. 5 degrees of timing, dual nozzle water/methanol injection?

Id say you should be right around that. I made 546 corrected with about the same setup, slightly larger injectors, smaller turbo. Like 505 uncorrected. On 2 diff dyno's, one dyno jet, one Land and Sea load dyno.
