Well $760 for a complete S300 isn't much more than what Piers wants for just a 35 compressor wheel and housing. Since the S300 has a smaller compressor wheel, i assume there would be no delay in spoolup compared to a stock HX35, unless the turbine housing being larger would slow it down. How does spoolup compare between the S300 and HX35?
How much abuse can an S300 take? I know a mechanic who's daily driver has an S400 and he's pretty happy with it but would like something different, dynos mid 400s. I think i was just reading a magazine in which they installed one and hp gain was very low.
What i really want to know is how long could i get away with just an S300 until i add my HT3B? With lots of fuel like i'm running, how much power might it make, how much boost, and how far will it bring my EGTs down from the mid 1,600 range they now reach? Could it safely handle 500 hp as a single? Do they come wastegated? Do i want one off the shelf or one that has been tweaked and which brand would be best for my setup?
My truck doesn't have a lift, just moved the front axle forward during the coil conversion to clear 35" x 13" tires, but the beast weighs just a few hundred pounds shy of 10,000 lbs empty. High temps during the day have only been getting into the 20s for the past couple weeks. My turbo is noticeably more responsive in this frigid air but is not making much over 30 psi boost. I plan to attend a dyno event this Saturday to see what it puts down, i'm expecting around 350 hp. Hope i don't destroy it while seeing what it can do!
