Last word I got (2 weeks ago): The manufacturer is trying to roll these lights out by Christmas, but they would not guarantee anything to me. I finally coerced the fact that they landed a huge OEM headlight supply contract a few months ago which has been the focus of their attention (explains a lot). I can't blame them for focusing on where the big bucks are, but they have reassured me the lights are not cancelled, just delayed. I will send them another note in a few minutes to grab another update. As soon as I can get everyone pictures, I will post them.

Moparbob;

It is time to either have the manufacturer commit to a production date or source a new one. This has now gone on for just shy of one year and my guess is that most interested parties are growing very tired waiting much longer.

My interest in better quality lighting is there, but if resolution is not found with your supplier (including pricing), I am moving on.

Thank you.

Chris

Moparbob, I feel the same as Chris... time to get it done. In fact, I have added new lights to my new bumper and thery are awesome, but not practical for freeway driving like I-5 at night from PDX to SEA, just too much traffic in both directions. Yes, I uncover them and switch them on on occassion to see a great deal further, but I can't do that to the oncoming or anyone I am following. My sweety's 2001 Catera has great lights, they are German. I want to steal them and tape them on my truck :>)!!

I tell you one thing about those Cibei Driving lights, on the stretch of I-5 where it is two lanes and some idiots stay in the fast lane a quick blast of those lights and they move over. But that isn't a good practice to advise or do... a last resort when all the nice ways of asking for a clear road to pass are exhausted like following for 5 miles and tapping the HI's a few times... the Cibei got his attention!

So give us some hope, I have a 2 month trip coming up in Feb and want new headlights!!!!

So What's the deal! We need to know!! THX PJ

Still interested.. for now

I am still interested in getting better lights, but I agree with the others. . I'd like to know if its going to be real or vaporware for the near future.

I started this pursuit because of my need for better lights (just like all of you), so I certainly hope this deal will not fall through. 3 days ago I pressed the manufacturer and they told me I would have some pictures to share by the 25th. They aknowledged that we have been waiting too long and that they need to finish this up, but with their new contract (that distracted them to begin with) still demanding a of lot their focus and time, I too am on the fence about this. There simply is not any alternatives and that is why I began this journey in the first place. Let's hope they come through and I am able to post pictures in a few days. I truly hope that these new lights will be a worthwhile upgrade.

MoparBob, thanks for the update ( and of course all of the time you have put into this!!) As anyone knows who has tried to improve the driving lights on the 3rd gens, it is by no means an easy task to do effectively AND legally for highway driving. I have been waiting to see what comes of this before I committed to any one course of action to improve the lighting on my 2005 in the hope that the work that you are doing will save me a lot of headaches and time. I do hope that these work out well and that we can buy them soon. Definitely count me in if they are a powerful and good looking upgrade.

Maybe they'll come thru with a Christmas present, but is it just a tease! Let's hope NOT!!! Keep on them, I really need good lights!

ill probably wind up building my own. plans are to build a quad housing bassed off the new generation Cibie CSR lights

Good thinking, I squeezed a pair of those CSR low beams into KC slimlite housings, though a daylighter housing would have had more room. Also upgraded the bulbs to the ultra high efficiency +50.

plans are also to swap stock fogs for hella 90mm projectors, then run it all with a fogzilla setup
If you do the quad CSR's I bet you will find no need for a headlamp in the bumper. I had put hella 120mm projector's in the bumper and have since pulled them out in favor of the OEM fogs with all weather bulbs, very nice in heavy rain & fog. To supplement highs I mounted a pair of KC slimlite driving beams.

Hey Matt,

Do you think a pair of these could be squeezed into the oem housing, much like JKlopp did in this thread?
I doubt it, they are too big around I am sure at 5. 75" diameter.

Here is a pic of what I did on my truck-

  • Center lamps are KC driving slimlites
  • Outboard are KC slimlite buckets with CSR low beam lamps
  • Bar is a Randy Ellis
  • OEM fogs have 9005 all weather bulbs

Modding the oem lamps concerned me that I may end up without a DOT approved lamp that originally came on the truck.

An add on lamp falls under a different rule where I live.

I didn't want to do a light bar but caved for function over looks, now I like it.

Some other ideas. . I would like to see someone do a HID Hella 90mm Bi-Xenon mounted in the oem fog location, this way you could have a Hi/Low setup in there switched with the oem Hi/Low's. You just loose fog capability.

Looks expensive but add up all the parts on mine wasn't exactly cheap either.

-or-

Just two lamps on the same light bar looks pretty good to IMO and for much less money you could run 8"x6" Hella's

They are an H4 lamp so have a Hi/Low bulb.

-or-

Another idea I had was to use a pair of Cibie H4 conversion lamps that should be a direct fit in a KC daylighter housing.

The housings are not shown separate as a part but you can get them by calling and come complete with everything except the lamp.

Matt, so it sounds like that when you turn on your factory headlight switch, the factory headlights turn on, as do the CSR low beams; when you switch to high beams, the factory highs come on, as do the KC driving lights, but the CSR lows turn off; When you turn the fogs on, do the CSR lows turn off so that you are burning no more then 4 lights up front as per CA vehicle code?? As always, thanks for taking the time to explain. Your truck does look good!!

That's exactly correct on the function. They are all mounted, just not wired yet.

A 3rd relay will be used to interrupt the CSR's when the fogs are turned on. There will be no way to turn on more than 4 lamps at one time. No way to turn on any of the 4 added lamps separately, all will be controlled with the oem switch through a relay.

I plan to purposely aim the oem headlamps down to where they are correct with our TT hooked up, this way I can run the oem lows & fogs without blinding others when towing. The light bar mounted lights I will aim unloaded. This combo I am hoping will avoid too much light for oncoming traffic with 4 lamps in use while making a huge improvement on my end.

How are the lights on the 06 and newer? With what some are spending and doing to upgrade it would be easier to find new style fenders and lights from an 06.

Just a thought. :D

I was reading thru this and was going to post that exact question... IIRC my dad 06's are better. . . thou I cant really complain about my 05's... thou they do suck with the fogs off...

Moparbob;

Its been year now with promisses and explanations.

What is the plan and when (if ever) will the lights be done?

Here is an idea - post pictures of what these new units will actually look like. There was a shot posted some time back of a "pre-preprototype". is this the unit we are looking at if the mystery manufacturer will ever produce these lights?

Many of us have been excited about the prospect of installing superior lighting in our trucks, and several of us are willing to wait just a little longer, but its time to deliver either some really good information or withdraw this idea.

And yes, I am willing to wait just a little longer, but time is running out.
