I'd holdout a few more weeks and get the ball joints that Carli Suspension is working on. I am on my third set of dodge joints.

Avi

Dodge does not make them , there made by on of the brand names .
From what I've gathered , Spicer is the brand , unless your racing , then maybe bigger bucks .

I know somebody that is on their 3rd set after only 20,000 miles.

I'm sorry but that is just plain stupid. There is no way you can wear them out that fast. Mine went 75k miles and could have gone longer I am sure. This is my fifth third gen CTD, only one other needed ball joints in less than 75k miles.

No doubt the CTD is borderline too heavy for the front axle. I suppose if you lug around a snow plow or heavy aftermarket bumper/winch you could wear them out fast but I have to think those getting them replaced before 50k miles are being given bad advice.

BHolm,

Greaseable is the way to go. Also installation makes a difference. I am having to replace a set in my 02 Ferd 350 with less than 26k miles on them [factory parts... . ]

I agree, greasable ball joints and u-joints make a lot more sense.

As far as an '02 needing ball joints, consider that whether you drive it or not, the joints have been carrying that wieght for almost 6 years now.

It may well be crazy or stupid what ever words you want to throw out there but it does happen that way... ... I see these truck 5-7 days a week. The ball joints that are on trucks that get off roaded wear out quick . I am running some prototypes that have impressed the L out of me. They have seen Baja chase duties under some hellatiuos conditions as well as Duning and local desert and mountain off roading. Hopefully they will hit the market soon. The same trucks are also trashing the factory control arms... ... I suppose you haven't seem that either :-laf

... ..... damn... i had an '01 with 236k and NEVER had to change out ball joints!!... ..... hope these on the new truck last a while, but i too would want greaseable as well... tom

With 112,000 miles I am on my third set. No snowplow or aftermarket bumper, however 50,000 of those are offroad miles.

Sincerely,

Stupid

I use a needle to pump grease into the dust seal on mine once or twice a year. This may or may not have any effect at all.

75K and still going.

Yea and the 2 front wheel bearings that growled louder than the radio could put out, were probably OK also.

You either work for DC or live in a bubble.

121k on mine. They do have some play & I'm watching them closely. Looking for good quality aftermarket greasable joints.
