I'm sorry but that is just plain stupid. There is no way you can wear them out that fast. Mine went 75k miles and could have gone longer I am sure. This is my fifth third gen CTD, only one other needed ball joints in less than 75k miles.

No doubt the CTD is borderline too heavy for the front axle. I suppose if you lug around a snow plow or heavy aftermarket bumper/winch you could wear them out fast but I have to think those getting them replaced before 50k miles are being given bad advice.
Maybe your soft squishy D rated tires are soaking up the shock loads and protecting the ball joints? :-laf

My joints needed to be replaced sometime before 50K and I haven't even mounted the plow yet. Never wheeled the truck. Only driven on public roads. Makes me a little concerned to even put the plow on!

Here in Michigan, not far from Chrysler's headquarters in Auburn Hills, many of the public roads are still graded dirt. They can get quite bad in spots, so much so at times it feels like the Ford bed shake video. You'd think a "heavy duty" pickup could handle the public roads without chewing up ball joints. My older trucks could.

So who do we have developing HD ball joints?

Carli Suspension

DynaTrac

Anyone else? Anybody have an estimated time frame? Hopefully the improved versions will be available soon!

Just out of curiosity, has anybody looked into replacing the inner "C"s with Dana 60's or aftermarket king pin versions, say from Dedenbear?

Does anyone have the part numbers for GOOD after market ball joints and tie rod ends? Maybe MOOG???

2004 Dodge 3/4 4x4

Thanks,

mine have play at 18k. don't know i'd call them "bad" yet. they make no noise and the truck tracks straight. i go offroad... but i crawl around for the most part. certainly wouldn't think they should be bad though.

i'm struggling to find part numbers for new ball joints for my 07. i'm pretty certain they'd be the same as all the 3rd gens but can't get anyone to say FOR SURE that i could order for say, an 05 and get the correct ball joints and u-joints.

anyone??

I had a pass side ball joint go out at about 30k. Toe on the truck was fine, but yet a tire was wearing horribly on one side. Ball Joint it was. Covered under warranty. I always wonder if it was the small bump on the right side when leaving my driveway, or if the ex gf parked it with weight against a curb or parking stop and that killed the bj.
