While it starts out lower, it doesn't seem to fall very fast either...

I believe it's the shorter runs - lots of start-stop, and heating/cooling cycles that take the greatest toll on TAN/TBN - vehicles typically used for long distance, over-the-road use, with few stops or cooling cycles, seem to be easiest on the lube.

In my own experience, It was FAR easier to keep my oil clean and analysis looking good when on longer trips towing the 5th wheel. Now that I am seeing far more shorter local trips, my oil gets lots blacker, lots faster - and I have no doubt that the strain on the TAN/TBN are more significant as well.

I believe that is probably the case with any oil ... ... ... ... especially diesel. I'm careful when I'm home to drive the other halves gasser if I'm just headed up the road for a pack of cigarettes. I'll take the Dodge if I'm headed in town etc though.
