I keep blowing off the boost gage "horn to gage" hose. I've wire tied it at both ends and now it's either split, or come apart somewhere between the gage and barbed nipple on the horn.

I can see replacing it with a hard plastic line or even copper tube, but how would either of these connect to the plastic nipple on the back of the gauge?

Anyone know of a kit that has "everything" needed to get rid of the "blowing" rubber hose that comes with the gage?#@$%!

Thanks,

I have had one in my truck for 3. 5 to 4 years. The gage itself has worked perfectly the entire time. However I have blown the hose off 4 times. Of course it always blows off at the gage so I have to remove the pillar to put it back on. I have considered putting some sort of sealer on but am afraid of harming the gage if the hose has to be removed in the future. The last time I cut another 3/4 inch from the hose and wrapped some small stainless safety wire around the hose3 times then twisted the ends with some pliers and it has not come off since. This has only happened when the boost is well above 30. If I put the box on 5X5 I can go right past 40psi easily.

When I installed my gages I found a 1500 at pick your part that had burned and they gave me the pillar cover. It was pretty melted but the stands with the clips where still good so I cut them off and used 2 part plastic epoxy to bond them to the back of the new pillar. This way it is not so bad to get to the back of the gages and I do not have any screws showing.

My hose split at the hose barb on the intake and then started blowing off so I tightened up the zip tie. I contacted Geno's Garage and they sent me a heavy duty hose and have not had anymore problems with it blowing off or splitting.

I like the Westech combo gage for the EGT and Boost but it is harder to see at night but I got use to it. What I really like is I have gotten to were the reading is not as important to me as if the two needles are rising together and I keep the EGT from getting to high. If the temps are rising faster than the boost then I am either in the wrong gear or the rpms are to low.

do you guys like these gauges?

I am debating this one or a spa digital, cant make up my mind...

Working in power plants most of my life I much prefer analog over digital. The needle position becomes second nature. IMHO digital gages, regardless of quality, are the best for troubleshooting but are ill suited for monitoring variant indications such as pressure and temperature. Since the Westach is the only dual analog gage that I know of I opted for it. If I can figure out how to do it I'll post a TDR article that evaluated gages. For whatever reason I cannot attach a file if it has been attached to another post? Good reading in any event. You will find it if you search my posts. My Westach has been flawless, aircraft quality as advertised, simple and reliable. My only complaint is that the lighting is not close to OEM. The little incansdesent bulb, even with the green condom, is a bit bright on full dash lighting. No matter, I wired it into the dimmer and just dim the dash a bit at night, and I drive in daylight most of the time. To me, and I suppose most Westach affecionados, the gage is unique and cool. It sits nicely in the OEM SRT10 A-pillar, which is available at Genos.
