"off road fuel" posts beg the question...hmmm

Another Project.

Pretty cool. I wonder what engines they're running. . . I have a video of a truck running a Cummins 903 with 6 turbos, but they didn't light very well when he took a pass down the track.

TWilkening is partly right... It IS basically 2 8v92TAs bolted together, but in this configuration it is called a 16V92TA by detroit diesel (the biggest single block truck engine is the 12V92TA. ) This monster engine, coupled with bigger injectors, larger turbos and a few other mods makes for one of the most powerful and best sounding diesels...

I've always had a soft spot in my heart for the 2 cycle detroits. They are marvels of engineering and are unbelievably robust. It is incredible to think that an engine released in 1938 has survived to this day virtually unchanged (you can interchange everything except for heads on an engine from 38, but everything was homologated in 41 so everything 41 on has the same mechanical parts, and you can still get marine non DDEC engines badged as MTU. )

Dan, back in the day there wasn't anything with the power to weight ratio those 2-stroke Detroits had, probably wasn't anything even in the same league. I didn't realize they dated back that far, that's about when GM came up with the 2-stroke locomotive engines that ended the careers of thousands of steam engines.

Here is a vid of the rig with the Cummins 903 I shot last year. . . this is a 4-stroke V8 which sounds a bit like a Detroit when he does the burnout: http://s113.photobucket.com/albums/n228/VMac822/NW BOMBERS/?action=view&current=Cummins903Post.flv

I wish I had a pic of the Mid 1980's Cab Over MAC truck around here on the 20,000 lb pulling class. I last saw it at the Lawrence County Fair about 2 years ago. It had a V12 Detroit with Quad Turbos. I have Never seen anything link that in my life. The front wheels had to be 6' in the air going down the track. Way more HP than the truck in this vid.

12V71 is the largest single block, the 12V92 is 2 6V92s bolted together.
