275* transmission temps at 60mph

I just hooked up my trans gauge with the acutemp. going to and from work today my i was at 275* just cruising at about 60 mph. any ideas? ive got it wired through the cig lighter so i thought it should go back down each time but maybe not?

Probably need to ground the probe better. What gauge do you have?

There may be a thin "film" of corrosion on the line that the Accutemp adapter is attached to. I'd suggest running a piece of wire, between the adapter and it's clamp, to a known good ground point (frame/body/engine/battery) to ensure proper grounding. After that, if you still suspect the reading is off, you'll want to use some sort of test equipment to determine "true" temperature at the point where the transmission probe is reading temps. You may find that the Auto Meter gauge is correct.

If its a 1 wire system you will need to scrape the line clean, I would use dielectric grease to insure good contact, then run a wire to a good ground. Typical the 1 wire systems need a seperate ground to function correctly.



If its a 2 wire system something else is wrong.

ok thats gotta be my problem. Ill put a ground on it and see what happens then. When I started my truck after work it was already at 180* as soon as I started my truck so...
