I have been watching the TDR and building my wish list and thought I had settled on a smarty... . but the edge products seem to be pretty outstanding as well. I already have full set of gauges but the edge deal looks cooler than mine which is the quad xzt. In ya'lls opinion, which is better - Smarty or Edge? I am looking for power but I would also like to stay as stock as possible. (No turbo, intercooler, or any of that. )

If you want the power of a taped wire then going with an Edge product is cheaper than a Smarty plus a TST or Blue Chip. On the other hand, if you want low end spool & quick throttle response, there's nothing like a CaTCHER program in the Smarty. Maybe the Smarty & some Bosh 275's are the way to go without taxing your stock turbo too much. If you like getting on it heavy then a 14 cm housing is a good mod to the stock turbo. You will also need a boost elbow to get your pressure up to 30 psi or so.

I've had good luck with my Edge box. The Edge is simple and mine has been pretty reliable. However, if I had it to do again, I might try the adrenaline... maybe. More research is needed on my part. Everything I've heard about the Smarty has been good, but I'm not willing to give up my on-the-fly adjustability.

I love my Juice w/attitude, no problems and I love the shift on the fly, my mechanic recommended it and he has put on numerous products but ultimately to each his own, good luck with your project

I'm looking awfully hard at that edge juice and attitude. My only concern is too much power. I don't want to rebuild trannies and upgrade clutches nor do I want a bigger turbo, blah, blah, blah. A nice 4" exhaust and my stock clutch and NV5600. Is the Juice gonna be too much for me?

Put a set of RV 275 injectors and a used Edge EZ. That's about the max your stock clutch will hold. Simple dependable power. Minimal smoke if any.

I installed a edge comp box in my late 98 and just to be safe i installed a clutch, but i lucked out and managed to find a place not to far from home, i found a 13" upgrade for just a little over $300. Its a metallic clutch, so it doesnt like to slip at all it just wants to go, but it your curious look up Steve's Ag Part's in Humbolt Iowa.

I have had both an Edge EZ and a Smarty REVO. I sold the EZ because of radio (154. 695 Mhz Fire Department Radio) interference problems. Smarty has way more tuning options, more bottom end power, quicker spool, better fuel economy (when setting 1 is used or high timing is used on any setting). EZ was set up with incab switches and was nice to turn up and down. Only time I miss that on the Smarty is when I have the timing set up all the way up and I want to tow. Personal preference is key but mine is Smarty.

Your stock clutch is the weak link. It's not so much the top end HP (wire tap) as it is how the torque comes on. The Edge program is not quite as aggressive as the CaTCHER #9 in the Smarty. But either one is capable of overpowering a stock clutch. An EZ with Mach 1. 5's slipped my stock cluth @ 3/4 throttle. :{ You'll like either "box", so take your pick, baby it untill you have the $$, then call Peter at SB. ;) btw, it's not called Clutch and Traction CHallengER for nothing. :-laf

I offer all TDR Members a money back offer. You have my guarantee if you are not happy you will receive a 100% money back. No risk

Thanks

Get the SMARTY and if you want more power down the road add some injectors. It may not be the most powerful of the bunch but you will use it ALL the time.

I already have marine injectors. I'm not looking to snap drivelines or explode rear ends, I want good, useable, SAFE power. Right now my motor is in pieces and it will be awhile before I buy anything, but I'm happy to listen to all of you.

Thanks

I want the smarty but I already have the Edge Comp. I know I can stack them but seems to be a waste when the Smarty will do it all. Wyoming Cowboy, or anyone else, if you decide you want an Edge Comp I have one and would love to sell it for a down payment on a Smarty. Bob do you take trade ins. My edge works fine, I just want a Smarty. Someone please buy it, so you don't have to watch a grown man cry.

Or is it a waste to stack the Edge and the Smarty? What do I gain? I just read an article in a diesel magazine (not the TDR) where the Smarty was stacked on the Edge and the guy said it made a world of difference. Is there an advantage to running both?

Seems your in a pickle. If you want future power that will break trannies and need turbo upgrades, etc. , than the Edge Juice w/Attitude is your choice. Smarty with injectors can do this as well. I have had Edge and Smarty and both are fine products and you will not be disappointed with either.

Look at what you might want in the future and purchase based on that so your not spending money twice on upgrades. You can always leave the wire tap off the Edge until that time comes.

As others have said the programmer with the RV 275 injectors you already have will push your clutch and maybe push EGT's underload.

Since you have that engine and transmission still out it would be the ideal time for a clutch now and programmer later. Just a thought.

I have the juice with attitude and its awesome. level 5 adds 350 ft-lbs and 120 hp on the box alone. I have plenty of power and I modulate with my right foot - still get 20+ mpg avg and plenty of go... .

My only experience but juice is awesome. I don't know about piggybacking with a smarty - anyone want to explain to me the real advantage of this??
