I AM LOOKING AT AN 2006 MAGA CAB ONE TON BUT I NEED TO KNOW WHAT EVERYONE IS DOING TO LET THE TRAILER TURN AND NOT HIT THE CAB. SO IF ANYONE HAS DONE THAT PLEASE FILL ME INOo. Oo. Oo.

My neighbor has a short box quad cab... he's hit the cab at least 3 or 4 times with the stock hitch and has finally extended the hitch on the trailer to prevent this.....

He's a very good driver and each time he's smacked the cab its been backing up... each time he didn't know it happened and the trailer has no damage... .

He now has a slide hitch in the truck and a 3 or 5" extension on the trailer to allow him to back up and not hit the cab..... his new hitch mounted in the bed slides back 12 to 15" when he backs up... he releases a lever, pulls ahead to slide it back and it locks, he backs the trailer up, unlocks the hitch and slides it back into the tow position... .

I've got a superglide hitch in mine, and have had no problems. It slides like the above referenced hitch, but is fully automatic.

We have the PullRite 24K Superglide hitch. The 24K Model slides back automatically 18 inches when you turn. The hitch and the rail system (underbed mounting setup) will set you back around $3,500. Seems expensive until you price the trailer and cab repair cost after they get together. We love it, no problems, sturdily built, well engineered, just a great piece of hardware. The reason we went with the PullRite is the fully automatic operation (no lever to pull).

I have a mega and have no problem pulling my 33' TH. I do have a Husky 16K Slider which works very well for the tight spots. You just need to take it easy when turning sharply and know your limits for when you need to use the slider and when you don't. I think my hitch was $1400 installed.

for less than double that, you can do a longbed conversion :D

Dave04,

I know it runs about 4-5k to stretch a mega cab to utilize an 8ft bed, maybe the same for a quad not sure.

Ive done both the husky slider (valley now) and i now have the super glide and thats the way to go..... best hitch ive ever had, hands down worth every penny.

I chose to extend the trailler side pin box. Before adding the extension I really had no problems, just paid attention to where the trailer was, rarely did I get that close to the cab. I also chose to extend my GN hitches. I spent less extending ALL 5 of my trailers than buying a slider. Everything pulls just fine extended, no extra stress on anything especially the wallet.

Go with the 'superglide or slider",seen plenty in the rv lots with a dented cabs on the short boxes/mega's----they always seem to say they were careful--except one last time. :-laf:-laf:-laf. PS my neighbor hit his---popped the window/dented the cab---2500. 00 later to fix, almost there for a slider, hope he doesn't do it again. :-{}:-{}:-{}.

Whats the price tag on a long bed conv kit for 2004 q-cab?

I think you'd be better off just selling your truck and buying a long bed, but most conversion shops are in the $5-7k range for the conversion.

There are private individuals who have done it for considerably less, but if you want it to be a painless 3 day ordeal, a professional shop is probably your best bet.

I'm seriously considering having my mega cab stretched so that I can put a utility bed on it

Pull a fith wheel with my mega and previously with a quad cab. For takeing trips Nothing beats the Mega. Wife, 2 kids, 90lb dog, plenty of room and no complaints. I use a reese slider without a problem for over 5 years. Plenty of options for hitches. With the standard extended pin and my slider, I can go a full 90 degrees without hitting the cab. Just my 2 cents

I pull a 33 foot Laredo with mine and have never had a problem. I have a 16k Superglide. Pullrite has replaced this model with the 18k Superglide. You don't need a 24k Superglide your truck is not rated to pull that much, and it quite a bit more expensive. Heres a link to the place that sold me mine. It sells for $2199. 00 with a removeable under bed quick disconnect kit which I have and is very nice. $1899. 00 with the standard in bed kit. The advantage to the under bed quick disconnect kit is that you retain full use of the bed with the hitch removed. Only four small holes in bed floor, no rails bolted in bed.

Pulled many 5'th wheels with ext. pin boxes and no slider hitch. Just need to learn the limit when backing up ( turning to sharp puts a lot of stress on axles/tires anyway)

My Sundance and all other Heartland fifth wheels have a patent design front cap that lets you turn 88 deg. with a short bed.
